What has that to do with anything? Turner is a backup RB who's going to be a free agent next year. A free agent. So if the Chargers dont trade him away NOW, they wont get anything for him. And why would they risk that? He's not even a big part of their offense. And like i said, they will get Sproles back next season. Its just not possible to ask for a 1st round pick for a backup RB who's going to be a free agent next year. Whatever, we will see what happens.
" ...he's the REAL deal. " ~ ~ agreed. the chargers might . . MIGHT take the higher of our two 2nd round picks in this year's draft . . .
This is like the Vikings trading their 1st rounder for Chester taylor when he was a Raven...No FUCKING WAY; Kenny Irons PLEASE or Marshawn Lynch either one I will be happy
Hes a restricted free agent and the will make an offer to him. Another team will beat the offer, and as compensation that team will have to give up their first or third round pick, depending on the type of tender they place on Turner. It most likely will be a 1st rounder, but Turner will not be in a Charger uniform. The Chargers will not match the big bucks a team is going to give this guy since they will have to give up their 1st rounder. This is very much like the Lamont Jordan situation a couple years ago.
Anyone who says you can`t give up a high pick for turner b/c he`s unproven, well what the hell do you think the draft is,it`s a crap shoot. If schot thinks he`s the missing piece to the offence thats all i need to know
Lamont Jordan was a UFA so the Jets only received compensation due to the net loss of free agents. I just can't see anyone giving up a big bucks contract plus 1st and 3rd round draft choices for Turner (as I imagine the RFA tender will be the highest level.)
I am afraid to give up a 2nd but since we have 2 I'd give up our lower one and nothing more for the unproven Turner. No way would I even contemplate giving up a 1st unless of course SD gives us more picks.
You are afraid to give up a second for Turner? Don't be afraid. Teams that are afraid, don't win. And SD would laugh at that second 2nd rounder for Turner. The #26th pick in the draft for Turner is fair. You have to give to get. Turner is gonna be great. If he's in this years draft, he goes #5.
I don't know about that. But he definitely is a good value for the 26th pick. This draft is nowhere near as deep as it was last year. There were 5 legitimate possible #1's in that draft compared to every other year
We need to use our first three picks for Defensive line and linebacker help. The chargers showed what a good pass rush will do to Mr Brady. A running back should come via free agency or in the 2008 draft
yeah that may be why some of them think so. but I remember watching him in college and being very impressed. hes worth a 2nd rd pick nothing more. obviously. im not crazy about jumping on him but if the deals there and they do it i wont be complaining. as long as they address the OL. cause right now nobody is running behind this line.
Dumb teams just give up 1st rounders for unproven players. Lamont Jordan looked like a great player as a backup for Curtis Martin, how did it turn out when he became a starter? Most of turner's yards are in garbage time, he has ability and may be a very good back but I wouldn't give up a 1st rounder for him especially when RBs can be found anywhere in the draft. Turner himself was a 5th rd pick.
I just don't think we are gonna have to give a first, not even sure about the high second either. RB just aren't in high demand, two offseasons ago, Seattle & Indy couldn't get a 2nd for Alexander & James respectively who were both way more proven than Turner. Unless a team like Detroit(I wouldn't put anything past them) gets desperate and offers their high 2nd, I don't see any other team giving a 2nd for him. It will come down to how much SD wants to get rid of him to avoid losing him for nothing next offseason..
no kenny irons please. people complain about leons size but Irons is just a taller skinnier version whos still small. i doubt if he meets his listed weight. i guess id settle for lynch but im more interested in getting Blalock, Carriker, or Sydney Rice if he falls. then trying to nab turner for the 2nd or just drafting a rb in the 3rd or 4th
Great post..couldnt agree more. I would be shocked if this is a move the Jets go for..its a move that losing orgs. go ahead with ard rarely does the player merit the pick. Also agree that this would be a wait em out on draft day type move.
I feel a need to say this: The two times that Leon got 20 carries in a game he was over 100 yards. He had very bad games against Chicago and Cleveland and really was even annointed as the starter until the Oakland game. He had 11 rushes for 50 yards in the NE game and seemed to be getting stronger just before we threw the lateral. He will be fresher and stronger next year after a full year in the offseason program. I say we give him the shot, not use a high draft pick on any running back and upgrade DE, OL and possibly get a DE/OLB tweener or big NT if one is available with our early draft picks. Get him a blocking FB (Pociask if healthy will be great in this role) and I think we will be fine at RB. P.S. I get the feeling from Tannenbaum's statements that they are leaning this way, actually.
