Disco Stu hit the nail on the head. This deal has upside for both teams.

What I'm saying, if the guy ends up playing ZERO GAMES and is a TOTAL BUST,,, you gave up DERRICK STRAIT. BIG DEAL. And that's not gonna happen.

    Lets put it this way...
This is the list of guys that I wouldn't have minded if we traded for...

1 Michael Turner - not available because Sproles got hurt the other night

2 Ladell Betts - not available because Portis and another RB got hurt the other night

3 Chris Brown - not available because LenDale is a headcase

4 Thomas Jones - not available because he is hurt and Benson is hurt

5 Lee Suggs - tremendous upside, apparently he was available!

Dealing away Strait will alway be debated, but he didn't seem to have a place in our offense. I just wish we also sent them Bollinger for Babatunde Oshinowo for depth at NT.

BTW, how long is Drew Coleman out for? The season?

Michael Turner would have been awesome but i'm sure he wasn't available.

    Well now we have...

Cedric Houston, Leon Washington, Derrick Blaylock, Lee Suggs and Curtis Martin.

If Martin had any chance of playing, this move never would have happened...

Damn, 5 solid but unspectacular RBs...

IMO it cound be BT. AWN is a reliable QB and a strong OL. LS is a good PU for TT.

How can evveryone forget that Strait missed 7,8?? games in his rookie season. That is half his NFL seasons, he is just as injury prone as Suggs is. Strait was nothing. He had no upside, he had all his chances to prove he could play. He couldn't even make the nickel back, he was our Dime. He's so good the Jets used their 2nd 2nd rounder 2 years ago on a CB. Strait brought nothing to our team and had little to no upside. Suggs is not our saviour at running back, but at least he is taller than 5 foot 10. He has the size we have been lacking in the backfield and only 3 years ago he had a long run of 78 yards. When is the last time the Jets had a run that long! We now have a horse in our stable, maybe not a Kentucky Derby winner, but a horse that can run in it. The others are just ponies. Good trade Jets.

Are you guys expecting Suggs to take over sole possession of the starting RB position, or do you think it's more likely we'll see a Houston / Suggs rotation?? Fantasy homework.

Totally agree...wont loose any sleep over this. If the new staff saw what the old staff saw with Strait...why not make this move now.

Strait was in his third year..not first..not second..but third..and was already being moved by EM to the saftey position.

With all the injuries the Jets have had at that position...and even going out and getting Ty Law last year...Strait has had plenty of time to distinguish himself..and it hasnt happened.

Not sure on Suggs..to me this is just an Insurance policy for the Jets.

We are expecting Suggs to rush for 2000 yards...next question.

Turner is in a contract year though... maybe we make a run at him in the offseason.

Suggs is a capable playmaker... just needs to toughen up, or find some fucking luck!

I like this move alot. Suggs injuries were all freakish type things, and its not like he has a chronic injury spot that continually bothers him. Regardless of whether Strait has the potential to be something in this league, the strength right now of the Jets is the secondary. Barrett Dyson Miller will all play corner, with Rhodes Coleman the third round pick Davis, and Andre Maddox our 4th rounder last year who was injured. Where's the room for Strait? On the flip side, regardless of what some people on this board will tell you, Suggs is an immediate upgrade over what we have. No doubt about it, I'd rather have Lee Suggs, then Blaylock, Houston or Washington at this point in time. No draft picks were given up which the Tangini regime holds at a premium, and we're subtracting a guy that really didn't have a designated spot in the secondary while we get a guy that will most likely be the opening day starter at RB. Another solid move by Tangini.

This is my initial reaction too.

Strait was pretty good. Now we trade that for somebody who is injury prone.

The sort of rash way this was put together leads me to believe that CUrtis Martin's condition is much, much more serious than reported.

In a few months, he will be forgotten. Maybe a nickle-back for Cleveland, at best. And we got a starting RB, with the potential to be a feature back, out of the deal. Where's the problem?

Even if Suggs doesn't pan out, we've lost nothing. Either he will live up to his potential, or he will be a one-year stopgap for a team at least a year away from competing for anything. Taking a flyer on him was smart. If he doesn't pan out, we draft a RB early next year and plug him right in. If he has a 1200 yd season, we will obviously feel like the team hit the lottery here.

Not that I am a New England supporter or anything, but as much as I hate to admit it, Brady is tough; Pennington pales in comparison.

Brady takes some nasty shots then gets up and beats you.

Pennington takes the shots and well.........

I do like Pennington, but he does not do us good if he is not in the game.

I believe you mean 2500 yds and 1500 yds receiving!

I just don't see how Strait's physical attributes fit at the safety position. He's too small to be a good strong safety and he's too slow to be a good free safety.

Take Victor Green and make him a step slower and 20 pounds lighter and you have Derrick Strait. If Strait goes in the weightroom and gets the 20 pounds, which is always possible, then he's two steps slower than Victor Green was. It just doesn't work.

Then why not sit tight and see what we had at the RB spot? Its not like we're contending for a SB this season. For once, I would have liked to see the Jets look at their own roster first during a season, then evaluate needs at the end. At least we didn't give up a DP for Suggs. Then I would really have been pissed.

Again, stockpiling mediocre talent isn't the answer. We now lead the AFC in mediocre RB's not counting Martin.

Martin is a mediocre RB. The man is a machine and was one of the best to ever play, but he is no longer. When he lead the league in rushes, he didn't break one for more than 25 yards which is just ridiculous. The fact is, Tangini see our Talent everyday and they are so worried about it they went out and tried to upgrade it. I'll take their word over mine.
