I liked Suggs at VT but have not been impressed with him in the pros. Plus the injuries. In the end, I'm pretty indifferent towards the deal, although it's disappointing Strait never developed into anything here.

Strait was a likely cut for the Jets. Players that get their position changed in mid camp are usually on very thin ice come the final cutdowns.

David Barrett has been hurt the entire camp. You think Strait didn't get a chance to show something at CB before the Jet's shifted him to safety? Of course he did, he's just not an NFL CB and never will be.

ClevelandBrowns.com reports that the Jets have acquired Lee Suggs in exchange for CB Derrick Straight.

Don't hand him the starting job just yet. The Jets aren't giving up much in Straight, and Suggs has failed to impress two Cleveland coaching staffs. While Suggs is back on the fantasy radar as a late-round option, he has stay healthy and prove he's a better back than Cedric Houston, Derrick Blaylock, and Leon Washington. History would indicate that staying healthy will be hard enough.

def'n for real. sucks to give up strait, but we have many safeties who can hold the fort. They must be high on Eric Smith to do this, so I'm going to say this move was worth the risk.

Strait has way more upside than Suggs...not onboard with this Tangini move...

We are pretty set at corner.Dyson,Miller,Barrett,Mickens and Coleman was ment to be having a good camp before he got hurt.Like Bradwaysux says,he was probably moved to safety cause he had no chance at making it at CB.

I don't like this trade at all. RB's are a dime a dozen, especially some other team's trash. Is Suggs that much of an upgrade over Houston???? Strait had more potential than Suggs, who likely will be gone next year when the future RB is drafted.

are you joking? Suggs is a monster compared to those guys. Don't forget he played on the Brown when they had a worse OL then what we have this year. He has a nose for the endzone, something Blaylock and Houston can't bring you.

Strait never fit in on the Jets I guess.

I was hoping he would, but I guess not.

Hopefully Coleman is okay to start at safety week 1.

That is the bright spot that all they had to give up was Strait. I just don't see Suggs as a better option than what we already had and he certainly does not fit the smart tough football player that we keep hearing Mangini is looking for. I would have rather seen what we had in the Rbs already on the roster unless they could get someone clearly better which Suggs has not proven to be.

yeah but now Suggs will be running behind the "most improved OL in the NFL". He should get 2000 yards EASY. Martin who?????

Pennington is a tough player. No doubt about it. His injuries are unfortunate. Doesn't make him any less tough when he plays.

The one thing you cannot argue is Penny's toughness. Besides he is starting by default.

this is good, i bet strait wouldnt have made it out this year we would of lost him next year anyway i believe he is on his last contract year and the Jets do have Mickens, Miller, Barrett and Barrett at cb, at safety Eric smith, coleman and rhodes are there so theres really no place for him on this team

Considering Mangini's background (what little there is) is in the defensive secondary I trust that Strait was not progressing as well as some on this board believe he was. Suggs may be injury prone but has some ability. Overall I think its a wash. Hopefully he'll pan out. If not, Strait is not that big of a loss. I mean, he's been a fairly good nickel back for us but thats about it.

Why pick up a guy who can't stay on the field? At least strait stays on the field.

Man, GM, why did you have to make me defend Pennington in a Suggs Trade thread?

I can't believe people are actually upset about Strait getting traded. The way I see it, an injury prone RB is better then a DB that's too slow to cover anyone.
