yeah, I'm glad the jets didn't trade a draft pick to get Suggs--hang on to those. Strait didn't show much in 2 years so even if Suggs tanks I don't think we exactly broke the bank to get him.
After reading 13 pages of posts I can conclude that Jet Nation is split down the middle kinda like Bush/Gore or Bush/Kerry. Though this trade isn't a blockbuster it's not a total bore either. It also reveals a little into what Mangini and Shot are concerned about. 1) Cmart, if not at the end of his career, is definitely not playing any time soon this year. 2) What this does in camp is create more credible competition amongst the RB's. We could see some of the backs there now play with some more urgency then before. This makes it more interesting for sure. If not a total solution to the RB position it is definitely an infusion of who wants it more. Bringing in a vet also helps Mangini/Shot manage the position better. If not a Mangini player, could be a Shot player. It will put everyone involved on notice. Nobody will get the positon by default since Cmart is gone. 3) So far nobody has mentioned how this will change the look of our offense. If you are game planning against our offense as compared to without Suggs do you now have to account for Suggs eating you up if you don't respect him? He is another guy to account for. This could help Chad in the passing game. The TE's should benefit as well. Also, I think this could relieve the "can't score in the red zone" problems. This guy has a nose for the endzone. Suggs is also in a point of his career where he's probably thinking he needs to step it up. (hopefully) 4) I don't see it as desperate move but more as trying to bring something more out of the position. I don't see how by being idle makes it better. Next move by the staff is going to plug the gap in the middle of the "D". (hopefully) edit; failed physical, that should relieve some fans.
If either Houston or Blaylock is the best running back on the team when the season starts, he will play over Suggs. Mangini hasn't even named Chad as the starter, so there's still a ton of opportunity in the next game for Houston or Blaylock. I like Houston, but what's the problem with increasing the competition a bit? If they had given away Justin Miller, that would have been one thing. But Strait was a decent, but not spectacular, DB.
look at the video on the jets site... looks very good lets just see what he got on saturday if he plays (probably will)
You make it sound like we just gave up a super star for a nobody. Who the f*ck is Derrick Strait? Yes Strait was a good college player (so was Suggs) but what has he done in the pros? For what little Suggs has done, he has accomplished more as a pro than Strait has. So on the basis of him being a "no name", he's actually more established than the guy we gave up. As for dealing a second rounder for Thmoas Jones, you can't be serious. If we're giving up a second rounder, it better be for a savior at RB. And Jones isn't that guy. That's a Bradway move.
That being said don't you wish that Mangini would have come around a little bit sooner, say, when Ahmad Brooks was had for a 4th round pick in the supplemental draft?
I am not a fan of Lee Suggs but at least with this trade there is absolutely no risk involved.. Trading a 2nd round pick for a career underachiever who has had one good year in Thomas Jones, now that is a risk not worth taking
I just looked at the video on the Jets site, too. I actually feel a lot better about the whole thing. I am not saying he is our long term answer or is going to have a gang busters year, but there is potential for him to make a decent contribution to the point where Defenses would have to respect our ability to run. I found this article on some of his injuries: http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8768685 Seems like he has been dinged up from little stuff. High ankle sprain, dislocated thumb, etc. Unfortunately, they have come at the worst possible times. Last year he was poised to have the starting job then on Aug 24th suffered a bad high ankle sprain. He missed a few weeks, but coming back probably too soon never gave it all the time it needed to heal. I think he was placed in a Parcells-like injury dog-house thereafter. That is part of the reason he is here. Hopefully, he stays healthy. Then the trade will be a darned good one.
go back tot thread and prove it...you know you cant otherwise you would have quoted it...your full of crap and you know it cuz you were never involved in my beef...i was directing it at bammf...you really arent a class act at all...acting like a child then attacking me for something i never even did...unless you have 2 usernames and are secretly charading as bammf as well...i never once said anything to you
Ugh. Koz, by you quoting that guy I was forced to read his dribble; he's been on my ignore list for a while now. I could see he is a real people person, gets along well with others, just don't get him mad or his internet masculinity may boil over....
KOZ...i use words like cuz because im quick to type and i try to shorten things...it doesnt make my posts weak:rofl:
You're on his ignore list, which means he cannot read anything you type unless someone happens to quote you. I find it funny because it looks like you're arguing with a wall. Keep beating your head on it bud, you will break it down eventually.
i guess sending it to him via PM will have to do im not upset about strait being traded..although hes stuck on our team now i think...he isnt as good as we all think apparently...think back to what we have seen him do in the last 2 years...not much at all...he cant break the 2nd string even so he must be doing something wrong..I for one find nothing wrong with trading a CB we wont use for a RB we can get everyday use out of
