I don't like that they gave away Alderson, who was well on his way to a succesful MLB career, IMO. But the Giants needed a bat, and 2B was a huge hole because Juan Uribe fucking sucks. Add on the addition of Ryan Garko the other day, and the Giants are leaps and bounds better than they were last week. The Giants are deffinetly making a push for the Wild Card. The Pirates win this trade, but the Giants have nothing to complain about.
ya the giants needed some support bats around that nice staff they have going. maybe a low end rotational guy for depth and that team will be set.
according to MLBTR, the Sox rejected the Tribes offer for Bucholtz straight up for Martinez. Doesnt make any sense to me.
"Bell would be good fit for Yanks — 12:08 p.m. If you're thinking that Padres closer Heath Bell would be a perfect addition for the Yankees, you're thinking right. Several teams are interested in Padres closer Heath Bell. The Yankees indeed have expressed interest in Bell, but the teams are not engaged in serious discussions, according to a major-league source. Bell would be an ideal setup man for closer Mariano Rivera, and give the Yankees the option of returning right-hander Phil Hughes to their starting rotation." http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9871032/MLB-trade-deadline-buzz:-Thursday's-edition This would make a lot of sense.
Dodgers get Sherrill from the O's AOL Fanhouse's Ed Price reports that the Dodgers have acquired George Sherrill from the Orioles. Yahoo's Gordon Edes says the Orioles will be getting LHP Scott Elbert and third baseman Josh Bell in return. Assuming that the reports are true, Sherrill would work as a setup man in front of closer Jonathan Broxton, making him just about worthless in mixed leagues. Jim Johnson has to be considered the favorite for saves in Baltimore, though the team could try several relievers. Sherrill has a 2.40 ERA, 20 saves and a 39/13 K/BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings this season. Jul. 30 - 3:10 pm et Source: Ed Price on Twitter
Doc may yet get moved, to LA of all places. I would fucking HATE if Roy went to LA. Makes the Dodgers a title favorite, in my opinion. Fuckers.
Hahaha, the Yankees say "We'd like Washburn. You can have your pick of anyone in the system except our good prospects. Otherwise, take your pick. We've got a perfectly good Igawa here, gently used."
I'm thinking they ask for Gardner. Seattle loves those defensive outfielders. Whatever, let them have him. So long as we don't give up any of the impact arms we have down in Single A I'm not opposed to it.
Now I'm not a big "Washburn is too awesome for words" guy, but there's no way the Yankees get him for Brett Gardner. Not a snowball's chance in hell.
Well, lets look at some packages they could put together... Gardner, Venditte, Kennedy,Valdez, Aceves, Schmidt. A combo of any could hurt alot.
I see the Cubs picked up a couple of lefties from Pitttsburgh in exchange for Kevin Hart. Looks like it's not a complete fuckup of a deal, so relief there.
Haha...Yankees wanted to make a trade with KC for Bannister but asked KC to pick up all of the 650K left on his salaty...that tells you how bad the financial climate is currently.
