Wow..Detroit already has the best post-season rotation in the AL after today. This would put Chicago right up there too. Yankees really needed a pitcher.
3:35pm: USA Today's Bob Nightengale, via Twitter, says the White Sox confirmed they just got Peavy. Brock agrees - Peavy approved the trade this time. Peavy is owed $56MM through 2012, or $74MM through 2013 if the Sox exercise his option. 3:29pm: MLB.com's Corey Brock via Twitter: Aaron Poreda's in the deal. Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse has righty Adam Russell in the trade as well. Righty Dexter Carter and southpaw Clayton Richard are also going to San Diego, according to multiple reports. Peavy to White Sox is done.
He had several very good offers on the table. Now when he trades him in the offseason/next July, the haul will be very different, and more likely not as good. Teams pay a premium for a half and a full season rather than a half.
well he could let him go for 2 first rounders next year. oh well, it's too bad the sox didnt' get him.
If J.P really was under pressure to dump salary while acquiring young cost controlled talent he failed miserably. I doubt he has a job by next year.
how can you succeed if you're under pressure this way? i for one think it was good by JP to hold onto their only true star pitcher if he doesn't get what he wants. it's tough to succeed if you're given orders like this with a VERY fragile fan base. albeit, he has yet to establish a young core that he can build on in his regime.
Yeah, but the Yankees "supposedly" couldn't even afford the 650K owed to Bannister. They won't be paying what Arroyo is due.
Michael Salfino of SNY thinks the Mets should have made a move or two at the deadline. "The frustrating thing for Mets fans," Salfino writes, "is that catcher Victor Martinez was there for the taking. The cost reportedly was one of two Double-A pitchers Brad Holt or Jenrry Mejia plus Jon Niese."
holliday sits at 20/33 as a cardinal. we'll see if he carries this through september, and then we can make judgements. He did rebound nicely, and finished his oakland career with a .286 avg.
Yes he has. He has been a demon in St Louis. A change in scenery has done him will. I stand corrected.
