Now is it lets compare Coles and J porter stats. J porter didn't play in 2006(so lets compare years they played)
    J porter
    Lets see 2005
    76 recptions for 942 yards 12.4 avg 5 TDS
    2004
    64 receptions 998 Yards 15.6 avg 9 TDS

    Versus L Coles
    2005 73 receptions for 845 11.6 avg 5 Tds

    2004 Washington) 90 receptions for 950 yards 10.6 avg 1 TD

Porter numbers are just a little bit better than L Coles , the years both have played.

    Cotchery 2006 82 receptions for 961 11.7 avg 6 TDs

versus R curry who raiders were very careful in first half season(coming back from back to back achilles tears)(was third reciever for good part season) Curry finished with 62 recptions 727 yards for 11.7 avg 1 TD

Again translate Curry njumbers with more alot more starts and his numbers are alot similiar to cotchery if not better than him.
R Curry if he stays healthy easily a 1000 yard reciever next season.

    Now you were saying?

The fact that Porter's best years only match with Coles worst years pretty much show who's the better receivers.

What the heck are you talking about. I only went back to 2005 and 2004 be cause J Porter didn't play last year. (Art shell and Porter didn't see eye to eye) J porter pretty much missed all of 2003 due to sports hernia , 2002 j Porter was the big reason raiders were number 1 offense in all of football. (third WR)
Nice try but when J Porter and L Coles have played a whole year, J Porter has been the better Wr. 2007 expect that to be the case again. Also The small fact that 2004 or 2005 is when Coles came down with turf toe and lost alot of his speed. Hasn't been the same Wr, so there no need to go any further back.

R Curry just because raiders were be careful with him- coming back from back to back achilles injury . R curry IF he would have saw the field more(started last year) He would easily have surpassed Cotchery. Cotchery had 20 more receptions than Curry with same average yards per attempt.

Now when youthrow Raiders depth at WR and fact Jets have none. raiders easily blow Jets Wr corp out of the water.

What that means you can't make an arguement to support your case. Just say you were wrong and move on . Thanks R Curry and j porter are better Wr duo than Cotchery and L Coles.

Nice try but you should take a players best years when comparing two players, not their play over a set same time period. It's not as if Coles and Porter had the same situations in washington/NY and Oakland and the same opponents,so why just focus on the same time period?

You don't think J Porter Playing in back of two hall of famers Tim Brown and J Rice. (was third Wr when Gruden used Two TEs 85 % of the time. His numbers are going to reflect that. While Coles was a starting Wr seeing the field alot . Sorry But the numbers are not going to add up. Only thing you can compare is years both starting for their respective teams(not when one missed the season due to injury or was third option in offense)
2004 and 2oo5 both were starting WRs. yes or no.
2005 Raiders and Jets pretty much played the same schedule(afc West and AFC East played each other)

Lets just say for arguement sake you were comparing J Rice to L Coles in 2004. NOw J Rice was finished as a WR by than . So If we take J Rice best years versus L coles best years. Who you think would be the considered the best Wr than. It wouldn't be accurate as J rice over his career was clearly better than Coles, but in 2004 Coles clearly was better. (see the point)

again when you comparing best WR , you don't look at there best years but what they have done recently for you(J Porter didn't play in 2006) So we look at prior two years when both were starting Wrs. J Porter when both have played sixteen games each and Both were starting, J porter was the better WR. Enough said.

I gave cold hard facts to support my position. But since the numbers clearly show when both have played a full season and started, J Porter clearly has been the better Wr. Certain fans can't accept the data because it proves my position.
They claim the numbers are inaccurate ,as Raiders and Jets don't play the same opponets, and each situation diffrent. well than why does the Nfl list, offense ranking and defensive ranking ,when teams are not playing the same opponet. According to the poster Ten , those stas are meaniless than. Jet played a way softer schedule than raiders last year. So if you buy that reason Coles numbers are overflated last year.

I don't see why we should simply ignore Coles production simply because Porter wasn't playing.I can understand where you're coming from in terms of comparing Coles and Rice in his prime, but that's it really.Myself and others feel Coles is still in his prime and is still the same player form 2002 to 2003,so we feel that a more accurate comparison between the two players would be their best years.

I didnt that into consideration but now looking at it they wouldnt give him a 98 speed if he wasnt that fast.

This guy ran a ridiculous time for his 40.

It's just like everybody saying moss lost a step then he goes out and runs a f***in 4.29 40.

Coles is still that fast, trust me.

Again Jerry Porter was third WR (third option in offense behind J Rice and Tim Brown) in 2002 . His numbers are not going to be the same as starting WR. 2003 J Porter missed a good portion of season and was never healthy that Year(big reason the best offense in 2002 went down the toilet) Not to mention raiders started seven Qbs that year.

Let me try it again. Raiders had the best offense in 2002. How is that relevant to 2007. Randy moss in 2002 was a diffrent Wr ,than he was in 2006. You can't live in the past ,but what have you done for me recently.

If you noticed I didn't put J Porter above L Coles in My ranking as top WRs. You can only go by the stats they put up last year. J Porter didn't play and L coles had a very good year. My point was looking at recent years both have started, It is not crazy to say, Raiders duo of Porter/Curry will be better than cotchery and Coles tandem. Like I said when both have played and started, J porter numbers have been better. Same applys to Curry.
Again when you look anjd raiders depth and Jet have none at Wr, raiders Wr corp is better than jets. End of story.

Porter did play in that pass-heavy offense with Rich Gannon.
Coles has not exactly played in an Air Coryell or early 2000s Oakland or 1950s Rams type of offense.
    I'm just sayin'.

You don't watch many Jet games. Coles is not running anywhere close to previous years. Coles ever was shoplifting again, the big fat security guard would catch him this time. turf toe is no joke.

Do you understand the diffrence of being the third option(J Rice, Tim Brown) in comparison to being the first option. your not going to get the ball thrown your way as much. In fact if you honestly look at it J porter was the fourth option in that offense(C garner)

It's crazy to say they will be better.

It's not crazy to say they could be better.

    I'm not new to football.

I'm not going to do any statistical breakdown tonight.

I assure you Porter's stats were bloated because of the offense he played in and the fact he drew weaker DBs in coverage because of the two HOF receivers he played with.

The simple fact of the matter is Coles is a better player who is clearly, without a doubt, a more consistent, dependable football player.

it means I have argued with you before and I know that you dont understand the simple concepts of football...like many raider fans i know, your loyalty has blinded the obvious reality that you cannot seem to grasp...this discussion isnt worth my time as long as youre the one im trying to convince...

No offense Joe but right now Cotchery has allready had a better year last year than Porter ever had. Coles may well be the second best WR on the Jets and he certainly has been better, more durable and more productive than Porter or Curry.

Porter is 29 years old and has been in the league for 7 years allready. The guy is a big time underachiever.
