Watch the play again. Cro moves outside a split second before the receiver makes his move inside. He either read an Out and Up or he listened to what Bowles yelled and made an adjustment based on that. Now, it's true that Cro has made a living off of being beat and then using his tremendous speed and size to make things back up. At 31 he may no longer be able to do that, in which case he's not going to be a very good CB in this scheme. He's going to be on an island a lot of the time. Whoever is outside is going to be on an island a lot of the time. What if Marcus Williams turns out to be the Jets best CB because he's got 24 year old legs and the speed to live on an island and everybody else is a half-step slower than they were?
Can't argue any of that... I have the game pass... I'll check it out again. Either way though, Cro was toast on 3rd and 19 (there are no real excuses for that...nobody should get behind him). yup, it's a young mans NFL/game. The trick is figuring out how to beat age. Juan Ponce de León
.....OR.... both of them read an out and up, and the receiver either ran a planned alternate route, or adjusted when he saw Cro move to cover the out.
Let's see if he can beat a good team before completely jumping on that bandwagon..he has his first chance this week.
He does have a calming demeanor though. Almost the Anti-Rex. I agree about taking the wait and see approach with our new HC. He's done pretty good so far handling adversity. The real tests are yet to come.
Todd Bowles... cooler than the other side of the pillow After watching this on NFL network this morning i got pumped... He looks like a natural out there.. and still is just as much as a players coach as Rex was... at least while we're winning! lol. He said he does all his yelling and screaming during practice but on Sundays he likes to just observe without without showing a lot of emotion.
Two things really impress me so far with him - granted, it's very, very early to make a fully formed opinion of how Bowles will be long-term as HC. First thing, he's had by almost any definition a tumultuous preseason, through no fault of his own - and he's handled everything as well as could be expected from a first-time HC. Second, for the first time in forever, we saw actual adjustments made during the game/halftime that actually helped and led to a win over a team that they were clearly better than. Now again, it would've been interesting to see how those adjustments would've worked had Manziel not been the QB. Still, all in all, very good stuff so far from TB and the early returns are certainly encouraging...
I love how he knew the plays Cro got burnt on and Williams got the pick on before they even happened. I've always heard about how smart he is and this is just a tiny glimpse into that. I also love how he so calmly says to himself as if he's talking to Cro "I told you!"
I wish they made one of these for every game... Very entertaining and interesting to watch. I also wonder what's going on down on the sidelines...
How do you guys think our Bowles will stake up against the human cesspool, Belichick? Will he play mind games or just stick to beating the man's team? Both games I expect to just be crazy competative.....
It's funny. I live in Bills country and all of my friends couldn't stand Rex when he was the Jets coach. Calling him a loudmouth, full of hot air, and all the other things we all know is was and is. Now they absolutely adore the guy here in WNY. He's on every TV commercial etc. I'll give it to him, they sold 65,000 season tickets in total this year. After seeing this clip I am relieved that Rex is gone. I could care less about a cheerleader for a head coach. I prefer Bowles style and hope his quite confidence and analytical style creates win. I could give a fuck about the hoopla
That sums it up pretty well. His straight ahead, no bullshit approach is just what the Jets need right now. Todd Bowles' hire is the best thing to happen for this team in a long while.
Love this! Not only is the guy practically prophetic on defense, he actually has input on the offense.
I expect him to act like a professional and not beat his chest while having a 4-9 record against them, like other people do...
