I don't think he handled either of those moves particularly well. The Jets running game has declined significantly since Faneca left. On top of that the pass protection hasn't been as good and that's a conundrum given that Faneca was not good in pass protection. The runningbacks also have declined heavily since TJ left. Whether you like Greene or think he's an average back or think he sucks he clearly cannot take the load that Jones took when he was the Jets mainstay rusher. That role has never been adequately replaced since Jones left town despite the Jets wanting to go back to a rush oriented ofense. In fact I think both replacements, Slauson at LG and Greene as the mainstay, have as much to do with the Jets current difficulties as anything else that has happened. I'm sorry but quality over quantity has no business being in an NFL talent acquisition process. It has no place in a game in which injuries are numerous and "next man up" is the rule not the exception. The Jets talent acquisition process is failed, and it is failed in the most obvious place, on the field in the years when the Jets are down. No team goes from feast to famine faster than the Jets over the last decade. The only problem is that feast is more like eat food for the Jets than feast.
how is it being pompous? it's not like we are in the middle of a Met-like run, 2 years ago we were a top 4 team. You don't throw players, coaches and GMs away b/c of a bad season or 2.
Add Pete Kendall fiasco to the list, and you've got an argument. When you sign aging veteran, you MUST see at least 2 years ahead, and bring in a prospect to replace them. Where was the replacement for Pete Kendall? OR Alan Faneca? Jets lucked out on Slauson when they drafted Sanchez. By the time Faneca was released, Jets should have had a replacement on board. How about Thomas Jones? Same argument holds there too. Or if you extend the argument to TEs, it works there too. Sure, Peyton Manning is throwing at him now, but he was a serviceable TE (that could BLOCK and catch somewhat) even before he got to the Broncos - he was good enough with Houston already. Do you know which one I am talking about? I don't need to remind you about the RT situation now, do I? And don't even get me started on WRs. It's been quite some time since Jets lacked legitimate threat at WR. T-Bomb threw two picks away for Braylon Edwards, then let him walk for free. Two picks evaporated, in other words. Handled departures nicely? Nicely my fucking ass. It is NOT an interesting one. You CAN go with it if you have enough extra picks to burn. What if you don't? It is NOT a viable strategy at all.
