A second round pick for a proven starter that can and will handle the load? I'll take that in a heartbeat, way to go Jets! Jones is a tough, hard nose runner who can pound it inside.

I like Thomas Jones even though he isn't young, he's a very good all around back I don't love moving that far down in the 2nd round for a running back on the tail end of his career but the fact that we still have two 2nd round picks when plenty of offensive lineman will be available is great. Now the front office needs to figure out how to build the offensive line so that we can run the ball.

The draft chart says we essentially gave them an early 3rd round pick.

This was an okay trade since it helps the JETS out in the short term since Thomas Jones is going to turn 29 in August. This basically gives the JETS the two-back system with the veteran Jones and young Washington.

Fantastic if true. I was away for the weekend, so seeing all the signings and seeing Thomas as a Pat were getting me all gloomy earlier, but this trade is excellent and if we can get Columbo, then that'd be awesome as well.

ESPNews announced it as if the Bears 2nd Round pick is from 2008.

    Maybe they said it wrong.

Remember Thomas Jones has been sorta mad that he may have to lose carries to Cedric Benson who was the Bears 4th overall pick 2-3 years ago. So he wanted to get himself dealt.

Didnt think we'd get him this cheap.

This HAS to hurt to Buffalo though.....their market for Willis McGahee took a big dive here. :)

Washington's 2nd round pick, and we got theirs in return. We move down 20 spots and get Thomas Jones.

He is a beast. 296 carries, 1210 yards, 6 TDs last year. 15 carries, 112 yards in the Super Bowl. 19 for 123 and 2 TDs against New Orleans, and 21 for 66 and 2 TDs against Seattle.

Also, it should be noted that nobody had any clue that this deal was going to happen until it was completed, I love how Tangini has been working under the radar. Hopefully news that we signed an OLB comes in a similar way.

This is great....they traded us Thomas Jones AND their 2nd round pick for our first 2nd round pick.

Thomas Jones + #63 overall for #37 overall...this trade is fantastic!!

This is an unbelievably good trade...not only do we still have 2 second round picks, but we also now have a legit starting RB who will be the vocal leader of this offense...

    What a tremendous trade...

This is a great move-- we still have 4 first day picks to fill needs with, and have a guy who can start at a high level for 3+ years. I love this deal!! Considering his light load through his career, and him splitting time with Leon, this guy will be here playing well for a while. Great job getting this done guys!!

Sources: Bears to swap Jones for Jets draft pickESPN.com news services

According to league sources, the Bears have agreed to trade RB Thomas Jones and a 2007 second-round pick (No. 63 overall) to the Jets for a 2007 second-round pick -- No. 37 overall -- which was acquired previously in a trade from Washington, ESPN.com's Michael Smith reported. Thomas Jones

The Jets still have two picks in the second round -- No. 59 and now No. 63.

The Jets and Jones' representative, Drew Rosenhaus, are believed to be working on a new contract with Jones, whose unhappiness with his Bears contract led to him skipping offseason workouts this past season.

The Bears now have the No. 31st (first round) and 37th overall picks.

Only lone thing is hes a UFA after this 07 year and his agent is Drew Rosenhals.

So THATS why we were so cheap in the market. Saved money to get this guy a new contract.

A steal. This guy was the best back in the market. I hate losing the 37th pick but we move down some spots. 29YO is hitting your prime and he did not get a lot of carries early on in his career. Awesome Move. Colomobo is on the way. JUST BE Patient GUYS. WHERE ARE MY SHADESSSSSSSSSSS?!?!?!?!?
