He did a great job today and even started to show some moves when he was out in space. I never had a problem with TJ, but if Chatman can't come back I'm not opposed to picking up a back in the late rounds of the draft.
I've never been more happy to be so wrong about a player. He's been solid all year long and he flat out demolished the Rams today. But to be fair, Rams couldn't have played any less disciplined run defense (no responsibility for lanes, over-pursuit, poor tackling, inability to shed blocks). The cut-back lane was there all day for Jones.
good to see this thread resurfaced. gotta love football fans. But I must say, even TJs shortcoming of going on down on contact was not true today. He kept his feet moving. It was nice to see that improvement from him.
i will admit i never had high hopes for TJ...i never went so far as to say he was a bum...i just didn't and really still don't think he's a premier back....i think he never found a role in the offense until recently and its paying off big time...i think a premier back on this team would actually be a negative...with favre on the team you dont want too many big names and TJ isn't a big name but is turning out to be a consisent producer... on today's game i feel that TJ showed moves that i hadn't seen from him before...he was extremely light on his feet and i think thats because his confidence is building...hopefully he continues to produce the way he has.... KUDOS TO YOU THOMAS JONES
Thomas Jones is a Bum!!! My grandmother could have ran more than 150 and scored 5 or 6 times. He needs to up his game and his skills. 150yds just aint gonna do it for him. If he doesn't improve, Im afraid he'll be released in the off season and Favre will play RB for the Jets for the next 17 seasons and will do a better job.
Been tellin every one since pre season to stop worrying about jones. I'm glad he's been proving all the negative people wrong
I don't remember Curtis Martin being so elusive. There are many adjectives I would use to describe Curtis Martin (i.e., reliable, durable, smart, versatile, tough...etc.) but not elusive.
Oh curtis was elusive yes he was.. I remember a game against kansas city he got close to the goal line and shook the defender out his uniform... anybody remember that game ?
Notice today how great the offense looked when it wasn't trying to get fancy with the playcalling, and instead playing a good hard nosed running football game? Look how much better it made Favre look when he didn't have to have the burden of the entire game on his shoulders. Jones isn't just another player on the offense, he is the center piece to any success we will have for the rest of the year on offense. He is the guy that is going to lead this offense to glory or shame, and they should give him the opportunity to do it. Oh yeah, his backup is pretty damn sweet too!!
I remember that game too but that's about all I remember with regards to his elusiveness. I think you will have a hard time making an exiting NFL Films type highlight reel of great Curtis Martin runs. It's not a knock; a lot can be said about being a durable reliable workhorse but that doesn't make for exciting television.
Curtis Martin was elusive between the tackles. Part of the reason why he lasted so long is that he was able to dive forward for a couple yards at the end of plays without getting destroyed. He didn't have amazing open-field agility, though.
Curtis's main asset was his vision... when there was a hole he always hit it and he was shifty enough that he always made a move or two that got him free. He was a very VERY smart running back.
