Jones had a decent game. O-line was confused at times.

you're fucking retarded.....I'd explain why, but I don't think you'd understand it. In fact, everything after the .... was a waste of my time.

We can get Adrian Peterson from the free agency next. He'll get the job done. Thomas Jones just can't run at 5.0 yds a carry.

This is a thread started by someone who doesn't understand what he is seeing on Sundays. Jones isn't a gamebreaker, but he is a dependable runner that can make the gains when he has blocks, and he's excellent when he's running to the outside this year. Certainly not a bum. In fact, he's exactly what we had in Curtis Martin, minus better vision for reading blocks. This week he was as much a victim of playcalling as Favre. Possibly moreso.

Anyone who thought that you would add 2 O-linemen and turn him into a different back than what he's been his entire career is a mental bum. Cerebrally unemployed.

I didn't even think he played that bad this past Sunday. I felt he played well. He hit the holes strong. I loved the opening drive.

he's probably the same back he was last year

how many times did he have a defender right in his face right after the hand off last year?

he has a lot more holes this year

still not where it should be, but it's better than last year

Coles' drops have been drive killers. His concentration and focus just aren't there.

One thing I notice about T. Jones is his inability to break arm tackles. He seems to go down on contact, something Darren McFadden was criticized for coming out of Arkansas. It seems odd that with T.J.'s guns and strength, that he can't break loose more often.

Also, his balance isn't very good. Compare him to a guy like Marion Barber III. Who would you rather have? Marion the Barbarian is the definition of a punishing North-South runner (not Thomas Jones), and on top of that, he has deceptive agility and the lateral quickness to cut back and burst through seams that open up unexpectedly. The guy's vision and instinct as a runner are great, too.

Its def not Thomas's fault... he actually made a few great runs... not hard to stop a between the tackles goal line run as a defense when you are 100% certain its coming thanks to the play calling of Herm Edwards, I mean Eric Mangini...

Key word...DECENT...not great, not horrible...he's a decent runner.

This is exactly what I have been seeing. He gets the yards he's supposed to get, but no more and no less.

For a comparison, watch Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. AFTER contact, those guys legs are still churning and they're twisting and turning for that extra yard.

Are we really complaining about our RB who is averaging 4.4 YPC now? Holy sweet baby jesus.

It's not about statistics (how many times do we have to see that stat that Chad has the highest completion % in NFL history??). Thomas Jones, our starting tailback, had 1 friggin' TD all of last year, one more than a dead man.

It's about getting the job done. Get the ball in the end zone from the 1-yard line when you're given 3 chances. Break a tackle for once.

OK well he has 1 TD in 2 games so far this year.

YPC for a RB is FAR more important that completion percentage for a QB. He didn't get in the endzone on that drive because of a great defensive play and poor run blocking.

Find something else to complain about, seriously. You're barking up the wrong tree.

There is a difference between complaining and having an educated discussion. That's part of what message boards are for. Now the OP was definitely complaining. I am merely pointing out the shortcomings of our starting RB. Please show me where I have erred in my evaluation and I'd be happy to discuss it with you. I value your football knowlege.

My post was mostly a reaction to a bunch of posts in this thread being down on TJ. It's annoying to me to see negative posts about one of the most improved areas of the team this year. It all seems like reaction to a loss IMO. But you're right there is a difference.

I think TJ has done exactly what he was brought in to do so far this season. He is what he is, mostly a downhill runner who consistently picks up yards - there is tremendous value to a guy that can do that. We should know that having had #28 here for so long. He was never a flashy runner, he consistently got the job done and grinded it out of the course of the game and the course of the season.

I don't think he goes down as easily as people are suggesting all the time either. We've seen him throw stiff arms at potential tacklers and bounce it outside at least a couple of times already this year.

He's probably not a goal line back. Hopefully chatman can fill that role when he gets back.

Ehh.. curtis made 1 guy miss every single play... T. Jones... not so much. I think Jones average... maybe slightly above average. Either way I think we need to make HB a #1 priority this draft

T.J. hasnt looked bad this season he's actually been pretty good but that 3 straight runs from the 1 he couldnt get in was fucking ridiculous. More time to show what he's made of.

Agreed...I think Chatman will fill the niche that TJ and Leon don't. TJ definitely knows how to hit the holes. Chatman will be our grinder (1st downs and goalline). Leon is our baby Reggie Bush. Come our 5th game, I really think our running game is going to be day to the night of the last few years.

The 5th game (week 6) is when our season really begins (to me) and when I'll begin to be critical of things if they still aren't going well. We get chatman back, we're after the bye week, the offense should be well on it's way to being consistent.

I have high hopes for week 6 and beyond.

Did you lose a bet with Raider Joe?
