Nothing I hate more than moral victories.. A loss is a loss is a loss. I was encouraged that the Jets showed resolve after last week's debacle, but that is also to be expected, since it's their job. But I am in no way happy about the Jets losing. I refuse to lower standards enough that just coming close against anyone at home is encouragement. I don't find it as a moral victory that they were a few plays from beating the Texans - next time make those few plays. Didn't we have some crazy coach that said something about playing to win???
Herm had an injury bug season and went 4-12. Everyone wants to throw the current Jets staff off a cliff after 2-3 with arguably worse injuries than what Herm dealt with. Lets see what they do over 16 before going overboard once again.
I'll start off by saying a loss is a loss and nothing changes that. However, considering the circumstances I think we did pretty well last night. Really we were facing one of if not the best team in the league, a SB contender if not favorite. We did so missing our best player (Revis) and our top three receiving threats (Holmes, Keller, Hill). I was expecting a terribly blowout, even worse than the San Fran game, to be perfectly honest. We lost by six points and there were four plays in particular that made all of the difference in the world and most of them just were pure bad luck for us or good luck for the Texans. 1) attempted TD pass to Schillens which he was wide open for and it was likely to catch but it was batted down. That's 7 points we should have had if not for bad luck. 2) tipped pass in the endzone that just happened to fly right into the lap of a Texans defender who took off for 86 yards, it ends up as a field goal. Even if that is just batted down and we don't convert on 3rd down and kick the easy fieldgoald. That's a minimum of 3 points we should have had but, because of a lucky bounce for the Texans, they got 3 points out of it. That's a 6 point swing. 3) The onside kick recovery. Schillens should have had that and if he does we get the ball in great field position. Just bad luck again. Although, for the record, I thought it was a bad call. There was still lots of time left in the game, save that for later. I know they were riding high after the KO return but even still. 4) On the last drive a ball that was admittedly a bit high but was still catchable gets tipped right to a defender and it's game over. If he makes that catch he was pretty close if not past the first down marker and, again, the Jets still have an opportunity to win it if they can get the TD. So, yeah, a loss is still a loss but I think that the fact that they came basically a few fingers away from a victory against arguably the best team in the NFL, in the AFC for sure, while missing their best player and top three receivers at least says something. I think we win at least two of the next three games and head into the bye week at 4-4 and still have a shot at the wildcard.
Seeing Cro play last night, we see now how lucky Jets are to have him as their #2 CB. Easily the best CB tandem in the league & deserving to be in the argument for all-time CB duos.
This is what we've become as a fanbase, happy and relieved the team just didn't get blown out. Man has Rex lost that swagger he came in with.
The reason we lost was because of Morono and shitty run defense Keep starting Mike DeVito you fucking twit!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously a loss is a loss, but we played much better than expected. We only lost by 6 points to arguably the best team in the league. That's progress, especially compared to last week. Our young guys showed a little promise. I think we'll be alright this year. I wonder how many of these "loss is a loss" people were saying "a win is a win" after the Dolphins game. Don't kid yourselves. Negative outlook is a negative outlook. Try enjoying life a bit more and you won't see everything as grim.
If it wasn't for Joe McKnight's return we're talking about a second consecutive blowout. Let's be real. The defense came to play though. Proud of them on the passing end of it. Still can't tackle a RB though.
So you consider a 13 point victory a blowout? If it wasn't for Cumberland's drop that led to pick, and Schillens dropping the on sides kick that hit him in the chest we're talking a likely Jets victory.
If McKnight doesn't return that ball, it's 20-7 when Houston gets the ball back and this team falls on it's face and winds up losing 27, 30-7. McKnight saved the game. He won't be able to do it every week.
Why do you assume that? How do you know our offense wouldn't have scored on that drive? Assumptions... well you know the saying. We lost by 6, take out Mcknights TD we lose by 13. Take away JJ Watt making an amazing tip at the end of the first half and we could go to the half tied or down 4. You can go back and look at every play that could have gone a different way. We only lost by 6. That's what our TEAM did against one of the best in the league.
