You misunderstood. I said I think he WILL be a great player. It's just that he was a luxury pick that we didn't need. We did nothing to get any of the 3 or 4 players we need to play the 3-4. (OF course I don't think we should be playing it anyway but that's an eqo thing with Mangini). We did nothing to get anybody who can open holes on the offensive line. We needed to fix the fundamental flaws before we could start thinking about luxuries.
Well, one thing is clear- one draft was not going to fix all that ails this team. If the FO saw Revis as the kind of CB who doesn't come along very often, which I think was the case, given our glaring need you had to pull the trigger. I would have viewed TE or WR as luxary picks, but not the Revis pick. Our glaring holes on the lines are just as bad today as they were pre-draft. Let's see what the geniuses can do next year.
I think it is kind of early to doubt Mangini, but the SB keeps looking like a far shot at best. Our O-Line and D-Line looks like they both took a step backwards during the off season. We also seem to not be able to play defense effectively, even against teams without a crazy offense.
Speaking of WRs, we could have just as easily had Moss for a 4th as NE did. If Clemens becomes the starter that certainly would have been anything but a luxury for a lowly 4th and wouldn't that look really good right about now?
Doesn't have the character, remember? Personally, unless the guy has some major skeletons in his closet, I'd take a chance on him.
I think what he was saying was that we could have used big quality depth a lot more than a good CB at this point in the building process. Two pieces that potentially stop us from getting mangled on the line of scrimmage repeatedly. Aaron Glenn. Look up where we drafted him and more importantly what impact he had for this team. And I am a huge Aaron Glenn fan, but he was not a key piece for 5 years after we drafted him because the talent on the lines was weak.
Rhodes is a third year player. He'll be fine. The Jets have just matched up so poorly against the two opponents so far that there was no point in blitzing him for impact. They needed all hands in the backfield to handle the issues.
For me, this was a reality before training camp even started. All these years without a championship - I did not sense anything special about this team that would suggest this year's results would be any different. Until we can match up with our friends in New England, we can forget about a Division Title never mind a World Championship.
did you honestly think we had a realistic shot at the SB this year? i didnt think wed make the playoffs let alone get to the show. i dont like being right... clemens needs to be under center next week, and we need to find out what we have with him. i like chad, and i was disgusted by the cheering when he was hurt, but his time is up as the QB of the NYJ...
Last time I checked we still had 14 games left this season. Lets calm down a little and win a game first. Remember to get the super bowl you must make the playoffs first, and I think the jets can do that. If they return to the playoffs, then the sky is the limit, any given sunday. The next 4 games on the schedule feature teams with combined record of 0-7, the jets could very well be 4-2 in 4 wks if they play like they did in the 4th quarter yesterday.
The point that no1's made before about chad not being able to win a SB, or the point that after seeing 1 decent quarter from Clemens he is our savior
Well I do have one question AG... Since this team ISN'T winning the Superbowl, I have no idea how you could see that... Who IS going to win the Superbowl?
I did. It's a point that could have been made (and has been made) on a dozen other threads instead of starting a new one with an attention grabbing "No Shit" title.
