I don't think there is an elite D-Line prospect for the 3-4, I just hope that this year's draft is better than the garbage of last year's draft
Haynesworth would be a big plus for our dline and Suggs would be our pass rusher, 2 of our biggest needs, and I doubt that there is a great 3-4 dline prospect that is worth a top ten so after that to me the only thing more pressing then those things already addressed would probably be a RT and a OG and I don't know if there is any worth it that high in the draft so it may not be as bad as you think since SS has been a problem for us this year
I agree with you except for Coleman. He as been one of the lone bright spots this year. Even Parcells was really high on the guy, and as far as I can see he hasn't disappointed. Problem is he is surrounded by crap. IMO, if you put a decent NT next to him, and he will be a very good player. It is the same problem on the Oline with Brick, you put him next to a crap player like Clarke and his play diminishes (particularly the run game). It is hard for them to do their job when the players around them can't do theirs. Kimo was a mistake, and Bowens has been invisible. Has he even played? It is pretty bad when you don't even if the outside pass rusher is even playing...ugh How old is Suggs? Would it be better to go for a younger prospect in the draft? As long as Haynesworth doesn't step on anyone else's head, I wouldn't mind seeing him in Green and White.
I don't think it's fair to say that our owner is cheap beacause of our asst coaches. We have the asst's that we have because our head coach is so young and really hasn't developed many contacts to tap. Also many of the top tier asst's aren't going to want to work for one of the youngest most unproven coaches in the NFL. It really had nothing to do with Woody saving money. Ditto to the poster who remarked that Kenyon is doing great. TO me - he has been the most able bodied D-Lineman we have. He's been stout at the point of attack and consistant week-to-week. If your looking for the guy to have a bunch of sacks you don't really understand the DE position in the 3-4.
It's way too early to know how the draft will shape up. If Kenny Phillips remains a top 10 prospects or moves up to top 5 and we have no one to trade down with, I wouldn't be opposed to drafting him. If we are stuck with the pick I'd rather that than reaching on a player just to fill a need. Besides Phillips would make immediate contributions since it is so obvious that Mangini does not have confidence in any of the FS on the roster. You can tell by the the way he keeps shuffling them in and out of the line-up. In terms of FA, a guy that I would take a look at is Randy Starks out of Tennessee. At 6'3" 315 lbs, he may not possess the massive size you would like in a NT but he is very strong. He also has 3-4 experience; he played both the 3-4 nose and end positions in college at Maryland. One more intriguing thing about him is that he is a very young vet. He's been in the league for like 4 years and is still 23 or 24.
Why would haynesworth or suggs want to come here though unless we give them crazy money which we wont they have no reason to come here. This has to be done through the draft, bye getting as many picks as possible and getting as much salary cap help too. We need to get rid of Pennington, Ellis, Dyson, Barrett, McCareins anybody who is costing us, but isnt doin much. With Ronnie Brown goin down today, i see the Dolphins doing what the Vikings did and just taking the best player available in McFadden. I was hoping that Brown would have a great season so the phins wouldnt feel the need to take McFadden but with this happening Im pretty sure that they are gonna take him. I was hoping they wouldn?t do this because the Cowboys have 2 first round picks and we could trade with them so that we could possibly have 2 first round picks this year. That probably wont happen now unless another team gets a first round pick and trades with us. So regardless of the positioning of the pick, I think we need to pick Quentin Groves he is a beast and would do wonders for our defense the way, Merriman and Ware do for theirs. Depending on high low it is we still could trade down with a team and still get Groves , but picking up another first rounder next draft year in 09.In the second round the pick should be Dre Moore, monster out of Maryland who has the size to be an end in the 3-4, 6?4 311. 3rd Round we should take a tackle either Chris Williams or Kirk Barton.
Looking at the FA activity from Bradway to Tannenbaum, I don't see any signs but that we'll have more of the same... bargain-basement role-players that can't get the job done.
yea there is no point in obtaining depth when our startes cant get the job done, and whoever said we can get a 2nd rounder for drob-you are nuts
why would a top flight FA want to come here? we arent th eonly team that will spend money. We have to build through the draft
name 1 player the jets have been able to build of off and acutlly kept...they drafted cole and moss...coles went to washington...then traded moss back for coles!!! waste of time!! we got rid of abraham...and maybe vilma soon...they go nowhere in the draft
Rehaul Yeah, the jets went into this year thinking they needed to only "tweek" the team. I knew as well as I think most of you last year's success was a result of a weak schedule. Look what the pats did in the off season? talk about giving Brady weapons? We on the other hand got cheap as always. Nit picked on signing revis and letting Kendall go. I think Woody needs to decide if he is all in or as in the past just happy to make the playoffs. If we are all in, then go out and get players. If they are going to stay with the 3/4 which it looks like. Unload Vilma, Robertson, etc and get the players to fit the defense. I will say this is going to to be a 2 year project and anyone that thinks next year will be a complete turnaround is being optimistic. Keep in mind, Coles is getting old and we are going to need another receiver.
And how's that working out...? To paraphrase the late Jets owner Leon Hess..My time on this earth isn't guaranteed beyond this writing, so I don't have time to wait until young players learn how to play the game. I want to win now. I'm old (not really), I'd like to see another championship in my lifetime.
Difficult but not impossible. The Jets do have cap room. If they draft and spend wisely and get their QB situation figured out, they could make drastic improvements over this year.
oh, great, we are talking about draft picks.. The Jets do so well on draft day, does anyone remember the past 10 years??
Yeah – going 1 – 15 is always the best way to convince talented players to trust in your organization. We should have no issues recruiting.
