I'm old enough to have seen enough Jet December Dives (remember the 10-1 start in '86?) to start planning a trip to Tampa. But, I have a feeling this team will rebound and win three of the next four. I'll settle for a playoff berth, forget about the bye - Jets play better on the road anyway.
We probably aren't an elite team, fortunately there isn't an elite team in the AFC this year and we are as good as any of the other teams in the AFC this year all of whom have failed to take care of business at one time or another.
I guess you are all just jumping for joy after today then. I am glad you feel good about this team. I have been dropped on my head too many times to be talking about #2 seeds after such a horrible game that I think exposes many Jet weaknesses - pass defense and offensive play calling being the main ones. I just can't sit here after a loss like this and count the next four games as wins. Every game makes me nervous when I consider how badly this team can look at times. I'm glad you are all so confident. It would be different if the Jets had a 2 or 3 game lead in the division, but a 1 game lead over 2 teams with 4 to play does not make me sleep well at night. How about those who thought it would be better for the Pats to win today? Still feel that way???
Absolutely wanted the Pats to win today, I'm not interested in backing into the playoffs. I much prefer an opportunity for a 2 seed than backing in and being cannon foder on the road in the playoffs.
Then don't take the time to respond. You can argue with the points I made, but you don't have to attack the messenger. This board is just too much sometimes. Well, what do you expect from a Leafs fan anyway. I guess your all pumped up about Burke and feeling great about everything.
I think I'm on record as saying I'd like the Pats to win if we did and them to lose if we lost. But that's not important. No one is counting the next four games as wins, and I think everyone here is nervous about every game. Yet that doesn't mean the Jets don't have a good chance of going 3-1 in their next four games anyway you slice it, and I'd like to again point out you seem to believe the Jets' two West Coast games are far more threatening than the Pats'. That seems unreasonable to me.
There's a difference between backing in, winning the division, and getting a 2 seed. I don't believe there is such a thing as backing in. The top 6 teams go, whether you win your last game or not. As for making the playoffs, the Jets probably need to win the division and the Pats loss today makes that more likely. I'll worry about the 2 seed after the Jets win the next two games. I'll root against the Steelers from here on out, but I'm happier seeing the Pats behind the Jets than I would be seeing them with the same record.
One more thing. On a bad weather day with wind and the new deferral rule, why in the world did the Jets take the ball to open the game?????? You want to start a game like that on defense with the wind.
You seem to be saying the Jets aren't elite yet you are comfortable saying the top 6. Fact is the league is mediocre at best and the 5th and 6th best teams that make the playoffs usually aren't that good and aren't going anywhere unless they are hot at the end of the season. If we win out we will be both hot and in the top 3 if we lose 2 out of 4 and go 10 and 6 we ain't goign to Tampa bank on it.
I don't put too much emphasis on labels like "elite". Fact is Jets are 1-1 vs Pats, 1-0 vs Bills and 1-0 vs Fins so far which puts them in a good tiebreaker position.
With all of the offseason pickups we have gained ALOT of playoff and even SB experience. Once we are in we know what it takes to get it done.
I know. I hope we can now STFU with all the #1 seed talk that filled this forum the last week. That was silly. Let's keep priorities straight: 1) win division, 2) #2 seed. There really is nothing else worth aiming for, or wasting breath talking about right now.
I agree. But today's loss put the Jets closer to the 10-6 teams than the 12-4 teams. And the Jets looked more like a 10-6 team than a 12-4 team today. My point is that too many Jet fans were counting their chickens. . . . I have seen too many potential 12-4 seasons unwind into 10-6 seasons that end with a playoff loss on the road in the first or second round.
There is no reason other than an inexperienced coaching staff that in this league this team doesn't win 11 or 12 games. We haven't had that many 12 win season unwind to 10 win seasons maybe 2 in the mid 80's that's about it. Hopefully 10 and 6 doesn't get you in the playoffs this year.
It should be obvious to the Jets after the Arizona, New England, and Denver games that they don't have DBs with the coverage skills to sit back against the spread and play 6 DBs and rush only 3 or 4. In a sense, you are right. The way to attack the spread is to go after the QB because there is nobody helping the OL pass protect. The Jets seem unwilling to do this, partly because of philosophy and lack of aggressiveness (confirmed by Mangini's press conference after the Pats game when he defended the prevent defense even after it almost reulted in a disasterous collapse) and partly because the Jets don't appear to have enough cover DBs to defend a spread. Revis and Rhodes are fine, but Lowery needs some more seasoning. Law is too slow, Barrett and Poteat lack talent. Elam looked lost at times today and gave up two TDs. This all makes it clear that the Jets still need to upgrade their defense - both the pass rushand the secondary this offseason.
All I know is we are going to kick the 49ers a$$ next week and I am going to be there. The lost today hurt, but we will bounce back. Ever dog has it's day. Peace
The 2004 team should have won 12 games. The 2002 team should have won more than it did. As for hoping 10-6 doesn't get you in this year, I agree unless the Jets are 10-6. The bottom line is that I thought we were all tired of having only good seasons and we all want a championship. Favre was brought in to win a championship, not just get into the playoffs. We could make the playoffs this year without Favre. I see a team that, for the first time in a while is capable of dominating the line of scrimmage and that is what wins games and championships. The sad thing about today is that the Jets lost the battle at the line of scrimmage against a team that is should have dominated.
Favre was brought in to get us to the playoffs and sell PSL's. So many things have to go right to win a SB. A 39 year QB for a 1 year run is like a lottery ticket. Denver looks like they are as good as any team in the AFC this year that isn't Pittsburgh. Cutler is probably the best QB we faced so far this year. We have very good personal but not good enough to dominate. We still have no pass rush and no real Speed at WR. Hopefully Cloney is going to make a difference and we are going to decide to rush the passer rather than play 3 or 4 outright JAGS in the DB instead of going after the QB.
thank you thank you, not sure what they are doing. Every other play the announcers are saying here comes a 5th db, here comes a 6th db, never ever coming after cutler. One thing our best blitzer linebacker is out, (harris) but to continually drop back and give them time is killing me'
