Your job title could be "technician", and you could think of yourself as a technician, but suck at it, and all those would be true statements regarding Gase.
Did you guys see the following article? The headline is misleading, the author has zero sources and is totally speculating. I only quote it to see what you guys would think about Urban Meyer being the Jets' new HC if Gase were to get fired. https://itsgame7.com/urban-meyer-is-heading-to-the-new-york-jets/ Urban Meyer Is Heading To The New York Jets? Urban Meyer Is Heading To The New York Jets? Carlos Garcia December 21, 2019 Urban Meyer Is Heading To The New York Jets? Urban Meyer is heading to the New York Jets, it would appear based on the facts at hand. Meyer, 55, decided to take a year off from football after leaving Ohio State last season. Widely regarded as one of the greatest college football minds of all time, most assumed it was only a matter of time before he recharged his batteries and returned. The two places that seemed like the likeliest destinations for Meyer were USC and Notre Dame. So where does that leave Meyer? Well, it appears that he has now turned his attention to the professional ranks. On Thursday, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter appeared on Get Up and confirmed that Meyer would be down for an NFL gig. "I think Urban Meyer is interested."@AdamSchefter shares what he's hearing on the chances Urban Meyer will coach in the NFL. “I think he has an interest and would be open to talking to people about it. I think he is definitely interested in getting to the NFL if that were an option. @AdamSchefter shares what he's hearing on the chances Urban Meyer will coach in the NFL. “I think Urban Meyer is interested in coaching in the NFL,” Schefter said. “I think he has an interest and would be open to talking to people about it. I think he is definitely interested in getting to the NFL if that were an option. Amazingly enough, it looks like both schools will stick with their current football coaches going into next year. “He would sit down, he would listen and if the right opportunity I think he would be interested.” It is no secret that Meyer has publicly expressed interest in the Dallas Cowboys coaching job once Jason Garrett is fired. But Jerry Jones seems to have his heart set on a coach with significant NFL experience. So who does that leave? Meyer recently attended a Washington Redskins game and that raised a few eyebrows, but he is likely too smart to throw himself into the center of that circus. The Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars will likely have coaching vacancies to fill come season’s end, and either could be a good landing spot for Meyer. But the most likely spot for the former college coach has to be the Jets. Adam Gase has been a disappointment since the minute he walked through the door. New York, as presently constructed, should have had no issues winning eight games this year. Instead the team is 5-9 through 14 outings and has consistently been one of the league’s worst organizations. It is time to bring in someone with some gravitas, and Meyer would be that. At this point, what does New York really have to lose? Is Meyer to the Jets a guarantee? Obviously not. There are no locks in this sport. Anything could happen. But would it make a whole lot of sense for all involved? Absolutely. ****** So if Meyer is available and interested if/when Gase is eventually fired, would you be interested?
I totally agree, but would you be interested in Meyer becoming the Jets' next HC? The the only reason I posted it was to hopefully stimulate some discussion and see how other posters think about Meyer and if they'd like to see him become the next HC.
He's a good coach. Had some... "recruitment" problems. Wonder how that would translate over... maybe some fines or picks taken away for tampering... idk I like his football IQ and coaching...
Meyer's one of those elite coaches that turns programs into powerhouses I'm sure he'd do the same in the NFL but it won't be with the Jets. Earlier this year it was USC, then I heard the Cowboys rumors, never anything about the Jets. Total reach.
Am I crazy or did he not have a pretty serious medical condition? I can’t imagine he’d want to deal with the bullshit of an NFL head coaching gig.
He did/does, but I think I remember that he was going to take a year or two off to deal with it, but I don't think it was life threatening or career ending.
I'm not normally a fan of bringing in yet another guy with no NFL HCing experience, but given it's Meyer who I do believe is a great football mind, and that we'd be getting rid of Gase, I'd go for it. That said, there is absolutely no evidence that he's looking at the Jets or that Gase will be fired...yet.
Gase isn't going to be fired unless a really big NFL name is willing to come in and take Joe Douglas as the last word on the roster. The Jets are already paying Bowles, Gase and Douglas for 2020 in addition to Gase for 2021 and 2022 and Douglas for 2021-2024. There's just no way the economics work for a transition to anything less than a guaranteed winner who is happy with Douglas as the GM.
I clearly said that the writer had zero sources or reason to think that Meyer to the Jets was a possibility, nor did I say that there was any possibility that Gase would fired. This whole thread is about hypotheticals.
The "economics" work if you value winning. There's no cap on paying CS an F.O. personnel. Given how much the Johnsons have stolen from the fans for the losing product they've put on the field, they ought to open the vault. But of course they won't.
