I think you are probably right, but there may be more subtle repercussions that harm the franchise as well. Someone mentioned this in another thread, but what if Mariota drops to the 6 but the scouting department doesn't believe he's worth drafting there? Do they risk trading down and incurring the wrath of the fans if he turns out to be a franchise QB for someone else? Or do they play it safe and pick him even though their professional judgment tells them not to? Similarly, how much pressure will there be to get whoever they pick at 6 out on the field and producing immediately, even if he might need some seasoning on the bench? Will the staff do the smart thing and wait? I'm not holding a brief for Idzik's performance, but the way his tenure ended shouldn't give anyone in the building today any comfort that time is on their side. One half season with a poor draft and press conference and see you later.
I know it was an easy fix, Tannebaum had things under control and never should have been fired BUT that was his top priority when hired and he did it and left the new GM w/ tons of cap room.
junc I was with you the entire way on the straight until you dropped the sentence "Tannenbaum had things under control". I don't know how anyone can say that in confidence considering how the entire franchise spiraled OUT of control his last two years here. Idzik was brought here to clean up Tannenbaum's disaster. He had one goal in the immediate future and that was to take care of the salary cap situation. Considering he was only given the immediate future, he succeeded in what he set out to do. He set himself up to be able to spend on impact players that would be available this offseason. Where he really effed up was the draft. And again, I was fine with him being fired because we cleaned house and that is way more beneficial than trying to plug and play parts. To tie it all together, when you have idiots putting up billboards and flying planes after a little over a year of someone's tenure, and when that person did what they set out to do in that one year, it sends a terrible message to pretty much everyone else that doesn't know what is actually going on within the franchise.
as far as the cap, he went for it and we didn't quite make it. He had an easy plan to fix the cap issues. Tannenbaum had a bad 2 years, it happens but he built teams that made 2 title games and gave us a chance at a SB. He deserved to keep his job.
The wayne hunter and Mark Sanchez contracts were firing offenses. Mr. T was cooked for them, and rightfully so.
Hunter played well in the 2010 run and what choices did we have w/ Woody retiring? the Sanchez contract was a good one, the issue was not providing him w/ talent. the 2011 offseason doomed him w/ the quick offseason due to the lockout.
I agree. If these guys f_ck up. They will be professionally picked screws ups who we picket against with aldis lamps. The 'ding bat' fans actually got smart and used modern technology to get things changed. I would call that sports situationalism. The French used the same thing in the '98 World Cup.
That's the problem though; he was here 2 years and half the players he's brought it could still go on to be good players as they haven't been totally evaluated. If Idzik was here for 5-10 years and the fan base was sick of it it would make sense. Do you really think the Rooney's, or the Mara's would fire a guy because the fans were whining?
And yet people in this fan base are wondering why we haven't won shit in forever? Yet they are claiming Idzik is not a poor drafter? Good lord. I love mediocrity! I put that shit on my cheerios every morning
If Bowles and Mac were to be on thin ice after one off year (unless we have a beyond spectacular off season and put forth a SB or Bust type team) i'd personally start the VetoWoodyJohnson.com foundation !
Just like your posts. Seriously. It's cool that you disagree and nowhere in my post did I say he was great. He was nowhere near as bad as some perceive him to be. Regardless enough with the cursing all the time. You honestly sound like a 12 year old who just learned the eff word sometimes and it takes away from anything you post, if you do happen happen to post something worthwhile.
Chill guys. Idzik and Ryan went down on the rat ship. Woody didn't hire Wolf and Casserly (?) to find stooges. Takes your coats off. Boys.
Of course not, and I don't think that happened here either. Idzik is gone because he failed at his job with no promise of anything getting better and no confidence that the ship wasn't continuing to slowly sink.
So because FireMikeMaccagnan.com was taken, means he's safe from idiot fans? Means nothing lol. FireMaccagnan.com MikeMaccagnanFired.com 2 of the many domain names that could be used if need be. If MM and Bowles dont want those websites? Just win.
do you really think he was fired because the fans put a billboard, or flew airplanes? or could have been fired because his picks were poor (which they were) he left gaping holes in defense (corners) had money to spend to fix some of the issue not all but he did squat. Could have signed another receiver in FA and did not. Whiffed on receiver draft picks, could that have doomed him, or was it the crappy qb he picked in the second round that doomed him.... Idzik got himself fired for having an good plan but piss poor implementation and there was no way he should have ever make another draft pick again. because his picks were that bad.
How about when they do not win the SB 5 or 10 or 15 or 20 years from now or longer? Right now the non winning SB seasons are at 46 1969 to 2015 so there is no reason to believe that another 49 years can pass & we are still not SB champs? I would suspect if that occurs there will be a whole ton of very, very angry fans willing to put up money to fly planes & hang billboards
