but ducky learned from herm how to schmooze the press, so he's still the 'franchise' even when he doesn't often deliver results on the field....
So you think because Penny can schmooze the press Mangini would start him over either Clemens or Ramsey? I think Mangini would start Brad Smith if he thought he gave him the best chance to win. Chad may not be a very good QB but it's clear right now that he is the best QB on the JETS.
Sorry, I find that unfathomable. I'm not talking about Ramsey because he's already had his shot but we've got 1(or 2 depending on your POV) untested QBs on the bench. Practice can only tell you so much about a player. When Chad is throwing terrible drive killing INT's and unable to be accurate on any passes over 3 or 4 yards I can't believe that there isn't a chance that there could be a better QB sitting on the sidelines for the Jets.
Chad is a good QB. Will we ever win the Super Bowl with him at QB- NO. That is my opinion, has been my opinion, and I am sticking with it.
I doubt it but in any event you can't start Clemens against the Bears. If Favre is really hurt Green Bay might be the game.
I totally agree, he was the main reason we lost today. But there were others, blown plays and missed assignments. We are going to live and die by Pennington this year. And have to deal with performances like today.
If Pennington does give the Jets the best chance to win week to week(I no longer believe this is the case) then it says alot more about the Jets sorry state at the QB position then it does about him as a player. Are we writing Clemens off as a bust already? Is it that hard to believe that a guy we liked enough to draft in the 2nd round last year could do better then what we've seen the last month + from Pennington?
Ramsey sucks. And how can you put in Clemens at this time? Much less against defenses like New England and Chicago, real smart. Who's writing Clemens as a bust? YOU'RE the one who just stirs all this shit up every week, just so you can get a rise from anyone. You can flat out bench a veteran for a rookie when you're 5-5, i'm sorry. Chad has been atrocious, flat out horrible. But what message would benching him in favor of a rookie say to the team? No team in the league would want their rookie in at QB if they're in a possible playoff race. Nobody.
After the Cleveland game when this talk started heating up I said that Chad should play the NE and Chicago games and we'd go from there. He looked crappy in bad weather in NE and looked absolutely bush league this week. Forget rookie or non rookie Chad has singlehandedly cost the Jets 2 out of their last 3 games, and in the game they won it was an amazing play by Cotchery that gave the Jets the win. How bad could Clemens be? We know he has a much better arm. With Chad making dumb throws like the INT in the RZ today what is the benefit of having him under center? Please someone let me know if you can come up with an actual answer that isn't "dur dur he's a veteran". I'd be interested to hear it.
Nobody in Pittsburgh was happy when Roethlisberger had to start with the whole Tommy Maddox thing. He's a ROOKIE, most notably Alan Faneca saying he didn't feel good that a rookie has to be in. Ironically, Ben had a good year and lost in the title game. Point is, with a rookie, the team will lose some of it's confidence, ESPECIALLY when it's benching Pennington for him. Chad's play has been bad, we get that, and if their was a more capable backup, then i'd definately buy into the notion that the backup must play. But not when it's Patty Ramsey and a rookie, i'm sorry.
Someone should inform Dallas that their season is over then since they had the audacity to bench the great Veteran Drew Bledsoe for Tony Romo who had never thrown a pass in the NFL. Doesn't look like the team mutinied or stopped playing hard to me. The Jets are at the "can't get any worse" point for the QB position.
So you're going to compare a guy who has been groomed for 3 1/2 years in that system to a rookie who has been with the team 10 games? The Bledsoe benching was needed in Dallas, that was INTs, bad decisions, and hanging onto the ball too long. And i'm not saying Chad HAS to be the starter, their is NO capable backup the Jets can turn to. Bledsoe cost Dallas what? 2-3 games prior to his benching? Bledsoe shot himself in the foot at crucial moments, game-changing plays.
from today's daily news....hmy: So, what's going on with these veterans getting the clipboards? "I think the veteran is a pipe dream," one GM said. "They are looking at him at what he was, not what he is. Then, as the season moves on, they wear out. As they erode, your expectations lessen. What happens internally to the team and the organization is there is no hope. Where is the hope? How are we getting better? The only way we are going forward is we want to play the young guy." :shit: woddy/tanny/mangini should get over their blind spot when it comes to qb play on the jets:wink:
The guy had never seen the field in any action. I don't care how much tape you watch for how many years that doesn't prepare you for the situations you actually face once you get out on the field in meaningful situations. And if you've been paying attention Chad has singlehandedly cost the Jets 2 of their last 3 games.
That is true, and more often than not, the rookie is going to struggle a lot. I'm not ready to throw in the towel at 5-5 and put in Clemens, but you see it as, let's see what he's got, and for you to say are we writing off Clemens as a bust? That's absurd. He could turn out to be a bust, of course he can, but because the Jets aren't putting him in you throw that out there that he is a possible bust? Again, if the Jets had a better backup, I'd definately look into putting in the backup and benching Chad, but that is not the case. Chad is the blame for today no doubt. But with Bledsoe, he blew the game when his team was in the lead, tied, or had a final chance to tie the game and making bad passes. Chad threw 2 HORRIBLE INTs today, especially the goal-line one, that was worse because Chad flat out just stared down Baker, didn't even look away for a second. Chad isn't that good, but Bledsoe is worse.
I agree but I prefer to say" Chad THROWS another HELICOPTER"! That is exactly what his passes resemble! A whirlybird~
And you're the one wrapped in green, cheering, cheering, cheering, cheering, cheering, cheering, cheering mindlessly. So, if the guy has what he considers is an opinion that's realistic and not optimistic he's no longer a Jet fan?
During the last game I kept hearing... Bad Pass Bad Pass That's just not good against one of the best teams in the NFL.
You're right, obviously if you suck so bad you can never take a lead, you'll never get blamed for the loss. Pennington is an absolute genius. Bledsoe goes out and actually produces before fucking up, so he lost his job.
