When the offense looks good they are running into 8 man fronts and still coming out with 5 yards per carry. When that is happening Schotty tends to look like a freaking genius. When it doesn't work he looks incompetent. The running game is something that the Jets pride themselves on and it was stopped nicely by the Broncos.

Basically it is a mix of play calling and execution that need to work together for the offense to look good. When the running game can set up 2nd and 5 or less the offense looks great, when it can't the whole thing looks like shit.

The only way I see making things less predictable would be to pass on first down more. I don't know if that is something that we want to see or not.

The issue to me is definitely adjustments, fuck predictable or not predictable, we are just not adjusting well. You come into the game with a game plan, and it's to run, run, run the ball. The Broncos expected it and completely committed to stopping the run. This is where we should of threw in some more pass plays on first down, and play action, goddammit, play action, maybe it's me but these bastards are not using enough PA IMO.

Teams are expecting us to run and when they stack the box they will be regretting it if we used more play action, and it keeps them honest on top of that. I know most of you guys understand this, but I've seen teams bite real hard on play actions, yet we didn't use them much at all the last two games. I don't know maybe I'm not paying as much attention as others.

Seriously though we have the weapons to score through the air and on the ground, we need to make teams pay when they commit too much to one type of play over the other. The Broncos saw we were cautious of their passing game and they just ran it down our throats, we did not adjust well defensively either.

This point was brought up after Ravens game actually. Sticking to rushing on 1st down - and failing, obviously - puts Sanchez in a bind, usually with 3rd and long situation. Now that's a difficult throw for any QB, not just Sanchez. I'd rather see even split between run and pass on 1st down. Throwing 50% on 1st down doesn't mean you are ditching the ground and pound philosophy. Moreover, you can have easier stuff with 1st and 10 pass plays (that are used judiciously, of course.)
