True, but they are the #4 ranked pass defense in the league, while the jets are #7. Arizona has the # 23 ranked Run Defense, the Jets are ranked #30.

jets are slighty better on offense in the running game, but not by much. 3.8 yards per attempt vs 3.6 yards per attempt. But that difference is negated by the defensive difference.

Same story with the passing game, Jets are slightly better on yards per attempt, but the Cardinals offset that with the better defense.

Arizona's defense is tied for 5th with 30 Sacks. Jets rank 30th with 17.

Arizona has the 4th highest defensive interceptions (and we know how mark is with the ball) with 15, the Jets rank 20th with 8.

The Cardinals are +4 on the takeaway/giveaway. The Jets are -3.

In no way does this game on paper tilt towards the Jets. At best it's a toss up, but I give the cardinals about a 60% chance of winning because their defensive advtange more than outweight our offensive advantage. The reality is both teams have piss poor offenses with questionable QB's.

Don't underestimate the Cardinals, the difference between the 2012 Cardinals and the 2009 Jets is their running game isn't up to the 2009 Jets level, defensively and at QB their almost identical to the 2009 Jets.

While all of us who realize that Sanchez is the problem are reading that, all the Sanchez apologists should take a look at this:

    Larry Fitzgerald 55 Rec 627 Yds 4 TDs 7 20+ plays

    Eric Decker 54 Rec 685 Yds 8 TDs 9 20+ plays

Anybody out there think Eric Decker is a better WR than Larry Fitzgerald?

Even if you have one of the top WR's in the sport, it won't matter if he has garbage throwing the ball to him ... and behind him ... and over him ... and on a bounce ... and often times, to the other team. I'm not implying that we have anyone approaching Fitzgerald's talent. I'm only saying it works both ways.

EDIT: Fitz's 627 Yards Receiving puts him at #34 in the league and his 7 20+ plays are #44. Think about that ... 43 receivers have had more big plays than Larry Fitzgerald this season.

Completely understand what you're saying. But Eric Decker has one of the best QB's of our generation throwing to him. In Baltimore Torrey Smith only has 39 catches while Boldin has 50...and many people would consider Flacco a top 10-15 QB. It's not only QB to WR. I always hate the argument about the weapons because even if Tone was healthy and Braylon and cotchery were back. We'd still need everything firing on all cylinders. Our team just reeks of bad luck and poor plays. I said it during the turkey day game. What goes wrong, does go wrong with this team

That, right there, is pretty much my point ... or at least half of it.

Manning takes a guy like Decker and makes him look good. His 8 TDs are tied for 3rd in the league. Meanwhile, QBs like Kolb and Skelton have taken a great talent like Larry Fitzgerald and have made him look less than average.

So my comment to the "Sanchez has no talent around him choir" is this ... It doesn't make that much different who you put around him. His play doesn't elevate the people around him ... he makes them worse. Decker is doing a fine job in Denver, buit if he was here, you don't think people would be complaining about him not being talented enough? Even if we had a big time guy like Fitzgerald, Sanchez would just drag him down to his own level, the same way Kolb and Skelton have done. Folks, the WR's aren't the main problem. Could they be better? Sure ... but the problem here isn't the gasoline ... it's the engine.

Go ask Santonio Holmes ... I'm sure he'd tell you the same thing

Not to mention that, whether people really accept it or not, having higher draft picks will give the jets some badly needed leverage in the offseason.

I keep getting attacked for it but I stand by this: we need some more top flight players and the higher the picks the better the chance at getting that sort of talent OR the more (quality) picks we can accumulate. Either way, losing is winning at this point.

I def understand what your saying but we dont even have a player like Decker who btw had 8 td's . So him putting up the numbers he has this year Is no surprise.

Besides Kerley who wasn't healthy all years, there is not a dependable wr on our team. Also decker is the number 2 receiver, Thomas is 1.

Barcs, I'm pretty sure that most of the people who have given up on Sanchez and think he sucks, would still concede that he can play well every now and then ... like the Bills game ths year. The problem is, playing well 20% of the time and playing like shit 80% of the time is hardly an argument for keeping him. It's an argument for getting rid of him as quickly as possible.

It's like a wife who sticks with her abusive husband for years because every once in a while he tells her he loves her and brings her some flowers. Eventually she comes to her senses and gets the hell out of there.

It's not an accident, or bad luck, that he's 2nd in the NFL in turnovers the past two seasons. It's who he is. He's an awful quarterback. AWFUL.

The last thing I want is for Sanchez to have enough success to convince our clueless coaches and owner that he should be our starter next year. For the first time in my history as a Jets fan I genuinely don’t like rooting for our spoiled entitled QB.

His career is still young. I just get annoyed when people say crap like "there's no hope" or "he'll never get better". It's one thing to say he's not a good QB, but to just give up, when we still have a chance to make the playoffs is a bit over the edge. Sanchez will get better as he gets better chemistry with the team. In 2010, he was good with turnovers. If "he is who he is", then how is that possible? People just look for scapegoats rather than addressing the root of the issue. Here's a stat for you. Sanchez has had more 65%+ completion games this year than he has his entire career. Yeah, he's still up and down, but no reason to just throw in the towel and say its over. If he played good in the past, he can play good again.

That would be the jet thing to happen

Win our last 5, miss playoffs, shitty draft pick, and woody keeps everyone

To wit, I don't think the Jets should start Sanchez next year but I don't think they should cut him either. Cutting players with dead money is just as financially damning as over-paying players.

There's nothing in Mark's contract that dictates that he's the starter next year.

The dollar amount says it all.

Whether people like it or not Sanchez is going to be our starter next year. The year after that? Who knows, but next year he is going to be the starter. Nobody will trade for him, we can't cut him with the amount of money he makes and sitting him on the bench paying him that much just isn't going to happen.

Not to mention we don't really have any other options. It's not like we have a young superstar waiting in the wings. As bad as he is he actually is the best player we currently have in that role. Draft doesn't seem to have any high end caliber QBs where we'd be picking (at least from what I've read), trading for one is highly unlikely and we'd have to pay a pretty high premium for one in free agency which is going to mess up our cap situation even worse.

So, suck it up people: We've got at least one more year of the Sanchize. Depending on how he does next year we'll see if he's back after that or not.

Ummm, dead money doesn't come into play wrt whether or not Sanchez starts, rather,it's only a factor if he's cut or traded.

Who knows? Tebow or McElroy might step up and actually do a good job. Would be worth it to give them some game time this year to see.

I keep seeing people talk about Mark's contract. It has to be paid whether he plays or not. It's sunk cost. If someone else can step in and get more wins either without additional costs, or with minimal costs, that is what you do.

It's similar to the situation up in Seattle where Flynn was a high dollar signing, but Russell got the starting job.

In short, on field ability should be the determining factor of who starts and who rides the bench. It shouldn't be based on who's being paid the most. Afterall, the object is to put up W's.

I don't disagree with anything that you've said. Only, I would repeat, that Sanchez is our best option right now, as sad as that might seem. I agree that it wouldn't hurt to give other people a chance but that's clearly not going to happen in the next game and if we win a few it's unlikely to happen at all this season, barring an injury to Sanchez. Maybe if we lose the next three in a row and the season is clearly over but, even then, I don't think they would do it if for no other reason then the talk it would generate from the media and the uncomfortable situation it would put them in with Sanchez going into next year knowing how much money he's guaranteed to make.

Unless they have an amazing offseason and pre-season games I don't see either Tebow or McElroy stealing the starting role away. And it would have to be pretty impressive to the point where it's so unlikely to happen it's not even really worth thinking about.

I think it's all but guaranteed that Sanchez will be the starter come week 1 of the season next year. Week 6? Week 10? Week 17? That may be a completely different story, we won't know until we see how he comes out and plays next season. Maybe he'll have a huge bounce back year, maybe he'll be even worse or maybe he'll be exactly the same...I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
