Nice informative post OP  Crazy how feasible it is when someone puts it in perspective from a logically thought out standpoint
Well many sport teams are fickle and when they finish a cluster fuck type of season on an up note - they get a false sense of security and fail to completely address the necessary fixes they ultimately need to make.
Beating the better teams is how a loser should redeem himself. What good is winning games against cream puffs and then losing to the better teams in the playoffs because our QB sucks?
Depends on how we do it. But if we win out, either Rex, Sparano, or Sanchez figured something out that works well. You probably keep them. Tanny on the other hand would still be on the hot seat. If the Jets go 8-8, like last year, Tanny should be really uncomfortable. Because at no time in the history of football has someone been fired before their contract ended? Well that means we aren't as far off as losing to the better teams and losing to the cream puffs. It means were are a few pieces away, not a complete rebuild and overhaul away. It means we actually have decent core of players, not garbage on garbage
I agree with displaced fan. If we finish 9-7 but don't make the playoffs for whatever reason, Tanny shouldn't feel safe. Rex and Mark should, but Tanny should be gone. And finishing that strong proves we aren't terrible. It proves that we are an average team that can feast on creampuffs like most average teams can, but have trouble putting together complete games against good teams. With that, it can be fixed in one offseason; at the most two.
There are two problems with ending the season 8-8. 1) It drops our draft spot. and more importantly 2) it leads the office to believe they're a better team than they really are. As for those who are saying Sanchez is having a "bad year". I suffering from "bad support". is suffering from "poor recievers". It's true, Sanchez is having a bad year. But, it's also an average year for him, not for the league QB's, just for him. He's on pace for 509 attempts, Just slightly above his average per year, 364, 507, 543. He's on pace for 3400 yards, which would be his 2nd best season. He's on pace for 55.4% completion rate, which is exactly his career average. He's on pace for 17 TD's which would equal his second best total. He's on pace for 15 Interceptions, Which would be his second lowest total. He's on pace for 15 fumbles, which is the one area he's actually worse at than any other season. So what does that tell us? That Sanchez isn't really effected by the talent level around him, one way or the other, he's just a piss poor QB who when the team around him isn't elite highlights how bad he really is...a bottom 1/4 QB who's performance doesn't rise with elite talent around him, and doesn't drop with sub par talent around him. He is what he is, a piss poor QB.
assuming we go w/darksider logic here and we all root to suck down the stretch - who is the great blue chipper that is worth tanking the season for? Star Lotulelie ?
Which leads to the question, how good would the Jets have been in 2009-2011 with an average QB? How good would the Jets be today with an average or better QB?
If Farvarah would've stuck around, while Sanchez learned while riding the pine instead of feeding his douche ego in Minnesota....... :shit:
Depends on what Tebow or McElroy shows. Go into the season with one of them at the helm, or if they can't do the job, find a good placeholder qb. fix other holes with draft picks or trade back for more picks. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
What this also means is that even tho the talent surrounding Sanchez is at an alltime low, he is performing just as well when he had better talent. Meaning his team is on a decline not just Sanchez. Also I wouldn't be surprised that Sanchez will out perform his previous numbers ad have a completion % close to 60 considering the remaining schedule. The pressure on Sanchez is ridiculous, he has a over rated oline, a poor running game with a bunch of unproven Wr's and no game changing weapons. Also not having familiarity with his wrs and a new offense system. yet you are saying he Is still able to put similar numbers with considerably less talent.
Decent numbers? If bottom 1/4 numbers are your definition of decent numbers then yes. But by most peoples definition no. What it show's is that regardless of the talent level around him sanchez is a bottom 1/4 QB, but when he has elite talent around him he can ride their back to hide how poor he really is. A good QB Raises the level of play of those around him and will make them look better. An average QB will have his baseline rise or fall based on the talent around him. If a QB's numbers stay about the same regardless of the level of talent around him then you know pretty much what that QB is. A good example of this is the Colts, without a good QB they were horrible, but put a good QB in to the mix and the talent around them suddenly looks much better. Is the talent on this team down this year? Most definitely yes on the defensive side of the ball. On the offensive side it's really hard to say. Does the running game suck because the players are bad? Or does it suck because defenses don't fear Sanchez and sell out against the run? I suspect more of the latter to be honest, Because even when the team had a good running game Sanchez's numbers were about the same, and teams were definitely keying their defense against the run. Fact is even with teams keying against the run when facing the Jets Sanchez has never had even average numbers. We know what Sanchez is. Noone, including me, says we'd have a good team this year even with a better QB, the defense is too porous right now. It is what it is Sanchez is at best Dilford. But at least he is better than Ryan Leaf.
if theres going to be an upcoming resurgence, it certainly isn't being lead by Mark Sanchez. or the backup for that matter.
Decent numbers? Maybe not, but with what and who he has to work with the numbers are def not as bad as they seem. Also the numbers for this year are incomplete and they will get better. His numbers include poor performance against good defenses but now he will have a chance like all qbs to inflate his numbers against the weak teams. If you throw for 4000 yards with Calvin Johnson one year and throw for 4000 yards Without Megatron and with Stephen Hill the next yr. What does that mean abt the qb? Even tho the talent of the Wr dropped off big time you were able to perform just as well, that means you are playing at a higher level improving others around you. I mean lets get real we have wrs who were cut from other teams and now play for us. Look at some of our Wrs: C Gates, J Hill, Reuland, Cumberland, Aussie TE, Cromartie & now McKnight C'mon who is going to the pro bowl with these weapons lol. Lets get real and realize yeah Sanchez numbers suck but who the hell is working with. The EASY thing is to say Sanchez sucks but let's take a real look at the whole situatio Sanchez is a part of the prob? Ok, but who on this offense is playing lights out ? Exactly NOBODY.
Ummm, with Sanchez, the example would be, if you have Calvin Johnson and throw for 2800 yards, and the next year, you don't have Calvin Johnson and you still throw for 2800 yards, what does that mean ? It means you suck as a QB and are in the bottom 5 no matter whom you have as your targets. In other words, having one of the best receivers on the planet didn't even help your game.
Umm Sanchez never had anyone close to Calvin Johnson and had thrown for 3500 yards and around 30 tds last year so nice try. Also his completion % is on the way up and I can see it being around 60% by the end.
