We are screwed, rookie coach and no QB. Face it fellas, we will have all the parts in place but no QB and a rookie coach. Jets in 2010!!!
I really don't expect a hell of a lot to happen on the offensive side of the ball in 2009, Ryan lives on defense. He will probably get some good production out of the D next season, but I don't see us answering the QB or WR questions (past signing a second tier WR trade/signing) unless it's a player already on our roster.
I'll wait until we actually see how our QB plays and our HC coaches before making proclamations about the season as a whole. Thanks. Two rookie coaches made the playoffs last season with two rookie QBs. You can't possibly tell me that there's any sense of certainty when it comes to a rookie QB, especially two who had questions swirling around them headed into the draft. Most Patriots fans didn't think they had a QB on the roster when injuries forced their hand in 2001 or 2008. Ditto for the Rams in 1999. The fact that you can unequivocally state that we "have no QB" at this point is hilarious. I can't say for certain how the season will go. Neither can you.
I love how LTJF ends up saying he just has to agree to disagree, meanwhile he's posted half the posts on this thread. These kinds of threads might make more sense if we were comparing a more typical kind of QB controversy, as applies when you are looking at a choice between a vet Qb and a new guy. We instead are talking about Clemens, who has some track record, but is frankly more an unknown than a known quantity. It's really silly for either side to reach a firm conclusion about him. Having said that, we know the FO and we have to assume Ryan after talking with Schott are at a bare minimum prepared to contemplated handing the team to Clemens on Opening Day. No other understanding of what we hear and don't hear makes any sense. That has to be taken into account in assessing those here who are CERTAIN that Clemens sucks. I am all for questioning authority, but if you really feel CERTAIN that Clemens sucks, then how do you reconcile that with what the team seems prepared to do? If THEY thought Clemens sucks, they'd have cut him, tried to trade him, or quite publicly gone out and tried to get a new Qb. That they haven't suggests they do not think that.
And your point is? Actually from everything I've read the staff is split between Clemens and Ratliff, yes that guy, the guy who's never thrown a pass in a regular season game. You don't cut Clemens because you don't know what else you have. You don't go after a veteran at this point because there are no appealing players available. You heard what Ryan said. Are we going to sign a veteran just to have a veteran? The clear answer was no.
It really is waaaaaay too soon to take to heart whatever we hear coming out of the Jets camp about our QB situation. We still have FA period and the draft to go... and even then I am sure they are going to want to see these guys on the field for a while.
At this point I'd be very concerned about the Jets QB and WR situation. I don't love Clemens and no one really knows what the Jets have in Ratliff and even more so in Ainge. I guess they figure worst case they have Clemens and he'll do for a year. I can definitely see them moving up twice to go WR and QB in the draft. It depends who they like and how much.
My point is for the most part you continue to post the same thing over and over, creating red herring standards like "We need to be confident our QB will take us to the Super Bowl!" Or "We need to KNOW that our QB will be a success!" Those lofty standards, impossible of proof at this juncture, hardly mean as you go on to conclude that Clemens sucks. Nor do your stat arguments show that. The relevance of your posting over and over is it is your tendency to not really engage countering points in the discussion. My point was if Clemens SUCKED, why would he still be on the roster? "you don't know what else you have" is no reason to keep someone you KNOW sucks and pay him for it. Quite obviously there is no way to look at Clemens's situation right now and conclude that the FO and CS believe, as you so constantly and vigorously (but not to your credit) assert here, that Clemens sucks. In fact there are FA vet QB's available who are starter material. It is FA season. The Jets have already signed some players. They have cap space. Yet there is not a word about going after, for example, a starter quality QB like Garcia. What makes him NOT appealing is precisely the willingness to play the guys currently on the squad. That willingness in turn can hardly be based on a view that Clemens sucks. Sorry, but that covers it, and unless you want to modify your argument to say that the CS doesn't know shit when they look at Clemens, continuing this discussion serves no purpose other than to show you will not back down from an argument, no matter how wrong you are.
He is still on the roster because we still owe him money. He has a 900,000 cap number and would leave almost 500,000 in dead money if we cut him. It is senseless to even talk about him until we see who the Jets name the starter. I personally don't think there is any chance he starts for the team and if he doesn't you can bet he will get cut after this year. If they thought he was the answer after '07 do you really think they would have traded for Favre? And Favre had what, 2 or 3 years left on his contract? They begged him to come back this year and would have never cut him in a million years. You don't do that when you think you have a viable QB. What would that have made Clemens? 5 or 6 years on the bench?...lol. People need to step back here and look at just what the team has done.
Ravens 2008-2009 best D in football, which has built Chemistry over several years. AFC Championship. I think we need a Vet, desperatly. What if, Ratliff isn?t the Shit, and Clemens gets hurt early on?
