It not like Fitz is or ever been a franchise QB. So that saying doesn't apply here. Let's be real Fitz has been nothing but a career backup. Geno better for this team if not for any other reason he got game experience. People on here keep saying how the players was so happy when they signed Fitz. Do people really think they would be happy throwing a guy out there with no game experience? There is no question this is a win now team.
Please go back and read the stories about him in college... he is the same and nothing has changed. Maybe that will convince you he is a jerk not some poor kid who can not adapt... he is acting exactly as he did in college.
IMO, IF Geno somehow managed to put together a complete season of excellent stats, I would tag him for one year to see whether his elevated level of play constituted a reliably predictive standard going forward or was merely a one year aberration. Nick Foles' breakout 2013 season and ensuing career meltdown is one example that comes to mind for prudently avoiding "premature contractulation." The only way I would support the idea of rewarding Geno with a long term deal after just one exceptional season of play would be if he capped the year with a SB victory.
What if Petty outplays Geno this preseason? I've been thinking about this whole game experience thing the last day or so. With all the starting game experience Geno has, does it really matter if Petty outplays him? Right now, I'd say they've shown they are neck and neck in gametime this offseason. The coaching staff is putting Petty in with the 2's to see if this is actually the case IMO. I could be wrong, but if Petty plays as well as, if not better than Geno, what is the point of keeping him?
Rex took the Jets to 2 straight AFCCGs his first 2 years... Geno hasn't sniffed the top 25 in QB rankings in his career.........
Good post! The irrational hatred for Geno is really absurd. He's a Jet. Posters should be rooting for him to succeed. Just goes to show how lousy some of our fans are.
I don't think it's irrational at all, sometimes the light just goes on. Sure did for Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith and plenty of other QBs with talent. Alex Smith's specifically, was just as bad if not worse then Geno Smith. Of course slim to none odds, but to say it is irrational? Eh, I don't think so. Gotta explore every scenario, that's the day and the life of an NFL GM.
Huh? You response makes no sense. Geno is a Jet. We're Jets fans. We should be rooting for him to do well. He wants to do well and is doing the best he can. To hate someone because he's not as good as you want him to be or think he should be is irrational.
Did those guys still have shit footwork going into their 4th year as a QB? Footwork isn't something you just change overnight.
I respect that in a Geno vs. Petty for the #2 thread you still say Geno should be the #1 over Fitz. That is hardcore! But yeah, the players wanted Fitz back no doubt. If he were to get injured, they would be disappointed no matter what. As would most Jets fans.
Under pressure, Geno Smith's footwork is horrible. It was never good to begin with, if he is able to get rid of the ball quicker as well, he is still holding onto the football. Should be an interesting game on Friday, Geno and Petty will both get a lot of reps.
I truly hope Geno has insane success and leads the NYJ to one or more VLTs. On the same note, I hope Brian Winters and Tommy Bohanon each get selected for the next 12 consecutive Pro-Bowls and go into the HOF as two of the greatest Jets and greatest ball players of all time. Also, not holding my breath.
