When have I mentioned "Superbowls" ?.. I do not qualify as a delusional NE fan. I qualify as a "down to earth" Pats fan. Clearly I know they will not will win the SB every single year as some on this board think all Pats fans think, but from the pieces that they have in place this year I'm pretty comfortable that they will be in the mix come playoff time. That's all I can ask for as a fan. Every year I know my favorite team has a chance. Sure those championships were a long time ago, but they have been deep in the playoffs ever since.. 05 divisional round, 06 AFCCG.. We'll see how much of a decline they will be taking this year come Sunday.. Clearly I can't answer that since my crystal ball isn't working like yours is, but I got a warranty with mine and it's being fixed right now..
I think anyone who thinks this Sunday is really important for either team is off his rocker to begin with.
Are you serious? Divisional Game.. Heeeeelllllloooo.. You Play to win the game.. I doubt you believe that.. :drunk:
Banning champ was absolutely the right thing to do. If they really want to have fun, they'll unban him when we win and ban him when we lose. I'm sure he's on a Dolphin board somewhere as we speak.
Early games in the NFL usually are feel out games. The NFL is a league of adjustments. Teams that are standing in the end usually put together big runs and are playing well at the end of the season. Division games are alwasy important but the first 2 or 3 weeks of the season isn't a real indicator of the power house teams.
Depends. If you think you can take Miami, and One from Buffalo. then this is one of the three games that could detemine the outcome of the division. And Yes, I think Divisional Play will go along way towards determining who wins the AFC East. The Jets schedule isnt as tough as people seem to think it is, unless you over rate alot of teams on it.
Who said anything about a "Powerhouse" team.. You and I both know barring anything whacky in the division, it's going to come down to the Pats and Jets.. With that said.. Why isn't this game a big deal? It's still a division game.. NE is going for "One for the Thumb".. lol.. 5 straight AFC east titles..
Regardless of the week it is played, a home game in the division is one of the three biggest games of the year. The next three biggest are the three away division games, because of how the tiebreakers work. For all the fond memories of beating New England and Green Bay at the end of 2002, we don't win the division on tiebreakers without the win at Buffalo in Week 1. Really, all the division games are equally important, but winning the home ones sets you up, otherwise you almost have to win the road ones.
I happen to think the Pats are going 10 & 6 and if anyone is challenging them it will be a Bills team that surprises this year. If we win it's a big deal for us. I don't think it's a big deal game for the Pats at all.
Good post Winston although Im a bit confused by the fall of the Pats statement..then again, I didnt understand your post last year predicting a 10 win season for the Jets..so hushing up over here. As far as the Jets go? Either Mangini is truly a genius...or the preseason showed every single weakness this team has. Poor run blocking...poor pass protection...not being able to put pressure on the qb...below average run defense. Two great draft picks in Harris and Revis. Now, if Mangini is a genius..he held back everything this team is capable of. He showed flaws where they do not exist. Thats true genius..and Im not buying for a second. We shall see how truly smart he is this season..because a 10 win season with what I saw this summer would be truly genius.
To be fair, we do play the Giants and Philly in a few weeks, so he wasn't going to show much in those games. But I don't think a coach can control how the line blocks once they go out there. Probably a combination of both.
I hear what you are saying IS but its probably not the case of talent versus strategy. A guy blowing by your 4th overall pick LT isnt because you arent showing much. I would guess running backs getting 4-5 yards deep before a hand is on them would not be a strategy thing. Im a big EM guy though..and nothing...not a thing..would surprise me come week 1 that this team is very competitive with a chance to win that game.
That's exactly what I'm saying. No matter what play is called, if it's not executed it's not going to work.
Good post Winston By the way, what happened to Champ? Why did he get banned now? My take is that the Jets have the talent to win 10 or so games there are a lot of questions. Last year people mistakenly took us lightly because a) we had a bad season the prior year which to me was due to injury and not the lack of talent and b) we had an unproven head coach who looks to have quite a bit of talent himself even if he still has a lot to learn. The biggest question to me will be the OL. If they can protect Chad then we might just be OK. If they cannot, then it may be a long season. The next biggest question for me is can the D stop the run consistently and get off the field on 3rd down. Like I said, I think we have the talent to make the playoffs we just need to play consistent. We may need a player or two to really go all the way but stranger things have happened and if Mangini can continue to make more good moves then bad we might have a pretty good season.
It's always good to see you on the board MD. I think we have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, I just really question our ability to hold up at the line of scrimage on both sides. If we can we probably have a pretty nice season, if we can't, this year I think we take a step back.
I did a double-take when I read the original post and saw the Steve McQueen avatar... for a second I thought someone else had logged in under your screen name, Winston. I can't think of a single thing to disagree with, which means I have nothing sarcastic to reply with, which means this must be a sign of the apocalypse. Great post, by the way. Well said. Time for Sunday to get here....
