Man I wish we would actually pin it on Jones like that, Leon as well. Over the course of this season, that's what's given our offense a chance to be dominant. How many carries did TJ get in the first half today?
Some people here are arguing whether it was a run or pass blitz. A run blitz looks to clog every hole, a hat on a hat, nowhere to go. A pass blitz will have glaring holes in it - Not necessarily an overload but it isn't filling every gap. I don't remember seeing the play (I was at a friend's place and didn't get to watch the whole game) so I can't comment, but even on a pass blitz unless the man is a genius (which we know that Sutton isn't at this point) he can't predict the blocking scheme (let's forget about blown assignments) and thus the strip sack is automatically luck on Sutton's part. How much luck, however, is the question, which is dually asked as whether it was a run blitz or pass blitz.
luck? were lucky the ball didnt go out of bounds, were lucky that ellis got a good bounce and could run the ball in. that was not a lucky call, but it was a good call, one of the few by sutton. he needs to call more blitzes and stop calling that stupid prevent/dime package crap he calls all the time. he takes all of the steam out of the d when he does that crap. damn even get me started on mangini. they win in spite of him, but sometimes they dont.
This is a real good point. The aggressive approach that had helped them get the lead also cost them the game. Their risks had been paying off for most of the game and it only took one of them not to work to lose.
Today was the first day I actually saw what Bob Sutton looked like... He looked lost... I hope Mangini fires him and goes after Greg Williams. Williams was either fired or resigned as DC of the Jaguars.
I read this point on another board. Mangini's TO was actually a very smart move, because it encouraged the Bills to pass. With the clock stopped, the Bills' thinking was with this 2nd and 5 at 2.06 on the clock situation is the best time for the Bills to pass because whether it is complete or incomplete, the clock is going to stop with the 2:00 warning. Maybe Mangini/Sutton expected the Bills to pass, hence the Elam blitz. What do you guys think?
It wasn't such a bad play call.... the clocked was stopped with 2.06 to go. a running play would only take 4 seconds off the clock, and it would be 3rd down with 2.02 to go...... Mangini called timeout with 2.06... most coached would have saved this timeout... The timeout only saved the jets 6 seconds.... Instead of 2nd and 6 with 2.00 on the clock with 3 timeouts, mangini chose 2nd and 6 with 2.06 on the clock and 2 timeouts... Why? If the bills dont get first down... mangini was hoping to call another timeout with 2.01 on the clock and third down. A stop on third down would give the offense almost a full 2 minutes... to try and win the game... A run of no gain would take less then 6 seconds off the clock... Odds of getting a first down on an obvious run are slim... A play action screen pass would take more then 6 sconds and may give you a first down. Option A: Try to win the game now, with a surprise pass play and Risk a turnover Option B: Run the ball, and Risk giving favre and the Jets the ball with 2 minutes, at home in a must win game. they just wanted to end the game...
Every time we pressure Lossman, he panicked and couldn't do anything. Wish we would have blitzed more. i'm just convinced that the Jets try to make it as hard as possible to win/make the playoffs
We sent Elam on a run blitz. We do it all the time. However, we are very lucky Elam didnt fall for the play action, and went for Losman instead. The credit goes to Elam on this play.
Did Eric Mangini plan the strip-sack? Alright, I know he couldn't have totally predicted the result. But the clock management was really confusing me. Why did he let the clock run all the way down after they got a first down? I was wondering it myself during the game because he's usually good with them. But I'm going to say that he planned Jauron to throw it there. With the clock run down to 2:06, the Bills could be tempted to throw the ball since the clock stops regardless. So Mangini sent his biggest ballhawk, Mr. Elam, into the backfield firing. If they ran it, he might be run out of the play a little. But if they were to let Losman try and throw it? Then you have the Jets' biggest defensive playmaking dynamo going blind-side against one of the most fumble-prone quarterbacks in the NFL. Bang.
Who knows, who cares! Awesome play i just watched it on NFL.com over 30x with the radio announcer. it gets me so pumped http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80d4b03b&filter=cant-miss-plays&categoryId=featured around 3:35 or so into the vid
I don't think it was him, he would've called an empty backfield direct RB snap triple reverse intended to gain 1 yard.
