I really like what I see and hear from Revis. Dude is one of the best at his job in the league and he talks like hes a normal guy and continues to get better.
I think since Braylon got here he was trying too hard to be cool in front of his friend. Maybe some of Braylon's tendencies wore off and Kerry. Braylon was living with Kerry up until a couple of weeks ago.
it means if you make plays Ryan isn't on you as much, because its been reported that the players coach doesn't take shit from his players, but isn't much of a disciplinarian. the problem is that 2 years in a row and 2 different coaches could not save these players from getting a big head and slacking off. 8-3 last year made these guys lazy, and they admitted it in the press conference after the denver loss. then after a 3-0 start it happened again. There needs to be someone on this team or staff, anyone, that can keep everybody focused on the task at hand. Put a "C" on Revis' jersey for good and let him lead everyone on that field. Mangold needs one as well. Those two are the epitome of consistency.
I was thinking B.Scott was gonna be that "guy" as well.....not only has he stopped talking, he's stopped producing. I'm starting to wonder by featuring him as my Adopt-a-jet...if i didn't inadvertantly poison/jinx his season............jesus h. christ......this could be my fault
This is true, its probably because he isn't one of the really gobby Jets he didn't jump to the front of my mind when posting, despite being (probably) our best player.
LOL that is great. Fits for Kerry and Edwards. They both have all the physical talent you could want to play thier respective positions, but its the the mental aspects that hold them back.
That flies in the face of earlier years' reports in which he was THE MAN on the film tip, having extra sessions and helping the noobs to adjust and learn. That was back when he was good, and correct me if I'm wrong, but that article came out just before the big cheddar delivery. AFA Bart Scott, he was brought in to help transition the defense with an experienced veteran presence. He has been a good LB for us, but really not much better than Barton in play and leadership, and considering cost, he has not lived up to expectations thus far.
My big question is why two straight safeties have come in and looked great in their first couple of seasons with the Jets and then declined precipitously to the point they were no longer worth much on the field? Erik Coleman looked great his rookie year at free safety and then Kerry Rhodes came in and bumped him to strong safety and he never looked good again. Kerry Rhodes came in his rookie year and looked great at free safety and then as soon as Abram Elam emerged as an option Mangini moved him to strong safety and he's never looked like the same player since. He went back to free safety for a lot of last year but flopped back and forth there depending on whether or not Elam or Smith was on the field with him. This year he's been mainly at strong safety with Leonhard at free safety although the roles have flopped some since Smith comes in also. Smith obviously will be playing strong safety at this point since his value has been high near the line of scrimmage this year. Is this just a Jets thing with the rookies at free safety and then moved to strong safety afterwards or is it standard practice for NFL teams?
Living in Atlanta I still get to see lots of Erik Coleman, and I must say, he's still got it. He's not the greatest safety in the world. but he's playing pretty dang good for the Falcons
Exactly... but I also think that Rex is starting to understand which players are professionals and can handle freedom (Revis, Harris, Leonhard, TJ etc) and which need to get their ass-wipped (Rhodes, etc). Identifying which players need to feel pressure and which can work out like professionals is part of being a 1st year coach on a new team. Give Rex this season to identify the mentality of the roster and stay assured that next TC the guys who need some ass-kicking will recieve it. Rex said in a press conference he isn't afraid to take strong actions (in fact the DL coach got kicked out, Rhodes is getting benched etc) just that he doesn't feel he has to be an a-hole before doing that. Translation is: I'm not afraid to kick someone in the ass, I just give him the opportunity to show me he doesn't need it. But if he does he'll get kicked for real. I agree with this mentality (again sorry for my english )! I agree with GBA on nominating at least 3 full time captains. For me they should be Revis, Mangold (or Cotchery) and Feely.
Its very simple. He got contractitis. Got his money and stopped being a football player, it happens. He is the Jets Jason Sehorn.
