The Rays will be a solid baseball team in 2009...Maybe even better than 08.

It's tough to call right now. I could see all three being pretty tight through Memorial Day. The Yankees should be able to leave the other ones in the dust at some point.

Well said...But if I were a "Front runner" lol, I think I would be a Yankees, Patriots and Celtics fan instead of a...DIE HARD Rays, Jets and Knicks fan. lol, seriously.

And your right, the Rays have the best farm team around, I think Boston is @ #2 but the Rays young talent is great to have with an already young Rays squad.

I dunno. I wish you could post up the Rays lineup and pitching rotation so we could compare.

Wow. Its almost like they went out of their way to find a guy for every position on the field. That's pretty clever of them. Some of those guys are pretty decent, too.

    ?

PECOTA had us at 100 wins the beginning of this season. We've overperformed our Pythag, sure, but we're almost right in line with that projection.

    Kazmir
    Shields
    Garza

    Price

    Aki
    Crawford
    B.J Upton
    Longoria
    Burrell
    Carlos Pena
    Navarro

Oh wait we don't have Kazmir anymore but I wouldn't know that because I stopped watching in June when I realized we weren't gonna make the playoffs. Time to bust out that Dolphins jersey now......

This was a sophomore slump year that wasn't all that surprising considering their huge jump last year and the stress and extra wear and tear that went with playing an extra month. Their run differential was up there most of the season with the best until they fell apart in August, I still think they'll be a major player for the next few seasons though until their core starts to leave via free agency.

If only the world's most diehard, knowledgeable, and above all, intellectual Rays fan* were still here to share his thoughts.

And Pat Burrell is closer to 40 than 30, and he is not a very good player in my opinion. He had a few good years in Philly, but was a disappointment for the most part and never lived up to his potential. And now he is on the downside of his career.

CC didn't win 20 and Burnett did not really work out, at least in the regular season.

Funny about Bartlett being a weak link, though. He was one of the few bright spots for the team.

Burnett did just fine for the Yanks. Inconsistent, yes. But I wouldn't say he didn't work out for them.

The guy wasn't calling Burnett's performance out. He was calling him out for injury...I don't think he missed a start due to injury, right?

CC didn't win 20, but 19 is close enough.

As for the Rays best pitching staff 1-5...not so much.

The Rays will also be gutted when Crawford and Upton are free agents.

Something else about Burnett, his W-L don't show it, but he "won" a lot more games than he gets statistical credit for. He had a few games where his run support was completely anemic and they won late.

As for the Rays run differential, I pointed out earlier this year that they scored a lot early against the lower tier teams. Against better teams their differential was a different story. It's nice to beat up on the teams you're supposed to, but you have to beat the good teams too, otherwise you're not that good yourself.
