Lowery stabalizing the saftey position allowed us to go on our playoff run last year.

Several points here, obviously. And in general I just did criticize Schotty for his relative role in the lack of overall player development, but again that is a shared responsibility, and I agree with Biggs it is NOT limited to the offensive side of the ball. I have also never said there is no issue with the playcalling. I have criticized particular calls. I just think the problems are far more with poor execution and fans here overrating the talent on the roster.

Let's not forget that most fanbases hate their OC, but that Schotty was the OC for successive Champ Game appearances, has been working with a Qb with obvious issues, an FO who has let the OL decline, a revolving roster at wideout and a disappointing RB in Greene. Turning now to the speciifics you mention:

Keller. Reading your post one would not realize that Keller was the leading receiver for the Jets this year. I would not think he is the best example of saying the OC fails to properly utilize him. It is also problematic any time Keller is on the field given his poor run blocking. You have to choose among telegraphing it's a pass play, putting in two TE's if the play calls for TE run blocking, or not put him in for that play. Again, I do criticize the overall CS for failing to get Keller to be a better run blocker. But just look at the dude. He's not that big. I have to wonder whether it is realistic to think any OC can get alot more out of Keller. You yourself mentioned dropped passes as well.

As for the OL, and Hunter in particular, and the specific example of the Dallas game, Schotty again deserves blame, but it is shared by Tanny, Ryan and Callahan. I see no reason to single the OC out from that lineup. And I did read that if you break it down, Hunter actually does not show better performance if he gets help in pass blocking. That no doubt sounds counter intuitive, except I do not think much of the RB pass blockers, and Mulligan is better at run blocking than pass blocking. Beyond that Hunter has difficulty knowing what to do when trying to coordinate his blocking. is that a problem on the CS? Absolutely, but I also think it is why there were no quick fixes like in the Dallas game. And after all, Ware is one of the best pass rushers in the league. Let's not forget that.

As for the general comment about play calling, again, I already mentioned that, but will add here that in terms of the overall season I think it is obvious the Jet FO and CS foresaw a very different season than the one that panned out. They obviously did not foresee or prepare for a player of Mangold's importance getting hurt. They expected Sanchez to improve, at least somewhat significantly. They thought they would be able to go more with a vertical passing game, and that Greene would take pressure off Sanchez by being more of a threat in the running game. If you agreed with those perceptions and assumptions, would you not have come up with plans for a greater passing attack? When that didn't work out for obvious reasons, the O had to be redirected to ground and pound, as Rex himself said. But... the OL was not in good shape, Greene was not performing as expected and even got hurt there, and McKnight fumbled and got hurt, too. LT is a year older.

The Giants game was not Schotty's best, to be sure, but the Jets were basically killed in that game by Cruz's TD and Folk's missed FG. I would have liked to see more running plays in the third quarter, but if you look at the game board, Greene was not getting much yardage.

In conclusion I merely feel that while Schotty is far from perfect, too many here blame him for problems elsewhare on the team. I have even said I have no problem with him leaving, only that I do not expect any real improvement to result from that. I hope I am wrong if that happens.
