Those players are hall of famers? When you're acting like a jackass off the field and stinking it up on it, no one is really going to tolerate the attitude. Manziel needs to play better if he wants to get away with that stuff.
I didn't realize you had to be a hall of famer before you could talk shit on the football field. Apparently neither did most of the NFL
You do a pretty poor job at comparing things. Shit talking under a helmet to a "fuck you" visible gesture. Rex Ryan to Sean Payton LOL
He didn't publicly display a fuck you sign on national TV. He publicly displayed a fuck you sign to the Washington Redskins sideline. If there's a problem with it on tv they shouldn't have shown it. They cut away when other guys are cursing up a storm.. Your last point is stupid as fuck. He didn't make a suck my dick gesture so it's not even relevant.
Yup. They probably gave him some shit on the sideline and rather than confront them, he nonchalantly turned away and flipped them off. Then the next play he threw one of his nicest balls. He's not going to be intimidated. He was back in college for a moment there. Probably shouldn't have done it but it doesn't bother me. He's got confidence, once the game slows down for him at this level he'll be fine. _
It's the same concept lol Its an obscene gesture that is visible. What about all the people at the stadium watching the game? It's ok for all of them to watch a guy throw a fuck you sign in the air? Football is about as manly of a sport there is, but that doesn't mean you can publicly make those gestures. Sorry, it doesn't. He has had an issue with ownership with his off the field antics, he was fined for showing up late to a team meeting, and now he's throwing a middle finger up at an opposing team while on national television. Perfectly fine.
It was the first sign of life he showed all night. That's the Manziel Cleveland drafted. He thrives on shit like that. Some guys can play without getting pissed off, some guys are driven by anger and negative attention like Manziel. If Cleveland tries to turn him into someone that he is not, a robot, he is going to fail.
Exactly. Did Manziel lose his composure by making the gesture? Sure. (He certainly could have done a lot worse though.) That being said, the NFL should not have broadcast that moment if it deemed the gesture to be profane. Simple as that. On topic, @JStokes is right, Manziel will be fine once the game slows down. Would still like to see him sit the year for the game to slow down, and to give Hometown Hoyer the Destroyer (still a great story) another shot.
I think they should probably sit him and refine his game a little as well at first too. Especially since they will likely be without Gordon for all or most of the season. Next year with a groomed Manziel chomping at the bit and a freed Gordon they could have a nice dynamic. The problem is that Hoyer hasn't looked very good in the preseason. That's making it tough for Pettine. Maybe he's looking better in practice but damn.
The entire Cleveland offense sucked against the Skins first team defense. Couldn't run or catch. They were, however, highly proficient at allowing the pocket to be collapsed and dropping catchable passes. As you mentioned there'll be no Gordon, and there's little else that's special there (apart from their TE, IIRC), it would appear that it's going to be a long year in Cleveland. IMO, goes in favor of protecting the team's long term investment (Manziel) and giving the Destroyer one more shot. In the unlikely event that the hometown kid turns chicken shit into chicken salad, all the better.
If they do have a rough season this year it might not necessarily be bad for them with Manziel sitting. Between Buffalo's inevitable high draft pick that they have dibs on and their own... They could sit manziel this year, tanking it, come back next year with essentially 3 new high profile 1st round starters and an all pro receiver. Cleveland fans are inpatient people though. If they are 0-4 and Manziel is sitting but making a few plays in the wildcat the crowd will be screaming for him to be the starter.
The interesting thing to me is that Petine wasnt really there pick, he kind of landed the job because: no one wanted to go to Clevand AND the other decent coaches went elsewhere. Is it possible the Browns are eyeing someone for next year? possibly, I mean Kevin Summerlin was a hot coach last year but he decided to remain at A&M. Is it possible he goes to Cleveland now that Manziel is there? maybe. I guess we will have to see how Petine does. (I personally hope that snake fails and his defense sucks).
They said "This isnt college anymore Kid" wich happens to be true , might be a bit too early but when its all said and done manziel gonna be a below average QB in the nfl.
You think so? Im indifferent about him, I said RG3 was going to below average and im fairly positive that is where he is heading. I think I am leaning toward your opinion though right now about Manziel.
Ryan Clark was on ESPN this am with Mike and Mike and he said the comment was--cleaned up alot for radio--"This isn't college anymore and these guys are faster than you". Clark said he was not put off by the gesture--in fact he was fine with it being a crazy defensive player. Also said Manziel didn't lose his composure, that the moment wasn't too big for him, and had he been facing the bench he probably would have said it an not flashed it. Clark things he'll be a good QB in the league. He wasn't a world beater in the second half but he did look better. He still has that escapability but I think he's going to realize--if he hasn't realized it by now--that when he escapes he needs to throw it, throw it away or get down quickly. He's not going to be ripping off 60 yard runs like in college. The Skins were definitely coming after him to confuse him, he just doesn't have the experience to recognize the formation and call different coverages or audible out of the play. Once he does that he'll be fine. Looked like he had the jitters a bit given the pressure, but he throws a nice ball on the run. I think the flip off was not a "fuck you" so much as a "I don't give a shit about your taunts" or "don't care" type of thing. He went right back to the huddle like nothing had happened and made a nice throw on the very next play. _
They did drop a bunch of catchable balls but some of them were clearly low or behind the receivers. For both Manziel AND Hoyer. _
I don't think that's possible. He marches to his own drumbeat. I think he'll tone down some of the off-the-field stuff but he's never going to be a choirboy. He's too brash, too confident in himself. _
