If we could get the 48 Hours Nick Nolte I’d be happy.

That's asking a lot. I think Tropic Thunder Nick Nolte is the closest we can get.

If we don't hire right, that's all we are going to get.

Kingsbury and McCarthy are both solid choices.
McCarthy has to be willing to adapt , much like Reid post Philly, an innovative OC would help.
Kingsbury would need a strong DC to handle that side of the ball.
Both would be good for Darnold.
    McCarthy> Alex Smith/Aaron Rodgers
Kingsbury > Manziel / Keenum / Mayfield (first year)/ Mahomes / and our own Davis Webb

I'm astonished that JimCaldwell got two votes. Give me a list of 100 candidates not named Todd Bowles, and I'm picking every single one of them over Jim Caldwell ... twice.

I understand why nobody wants Jim Caldwell, but I don't understand why he gets trashed as much as he does. Not just on this board or by Jets fans, but by football fans in general. The guy has a winning record with both teams he coached. He had a few good years. Just fyi I did not vote for him.

And McCarthy's answer: "Because mine wins games."

The response to that answer is all too easy. "Yeah, you won games, but not nearly enough games. You lost a lot of games that you should have won, especially with a QB like Rodgers." Unless McCarthy acknowledges that his offense needs to be updated, more routes added and more combo routes run, I don't think he should he hired. I want an experienced HC, but not if he is set in his ways, is not flexible, willing to adapt to today's NFL and adapt to the talent the Jets have. No more HCs who insist on running their system and trying to force square pegs into round holes.

I agree and would like to add not only should he be willing to adapt but have a plan in place in how he will adapt.

I’ll be ok if it’s McCarthy and I’d understand the thought process in hiring him but I’d prefer someone like Monken, Rhule, or possibly even Kingsbury.

I’m pretty split on McCarthy, Gase if it’s an experienced HC.

I agree that McCarthy should have a plan in place as to how he will adapt. Good point.

Why Rhule? What's he done? I follow college football fairly closely and I've never even heard of him before. I want no part of Gase or Kingsbury as HC.

Rhule turned Temple into winners which is unheard of and an amazing accomplishment on its own. He’s since righted the ship at Baylor after the disaster that has taken place at that school.

He is a native NYer which I like and has NFL experience on both sides of the ball under Tom Coughlin which I also like.

Everything I’ve heard about him is he is a fantastic leader with real CEO skills which to me is the most important trait to have to be a HC.

I’m a lot higher on Gase than most in here seem to be. I think he was the best thing Miami had going for them and getting 7 wins with that talent and staying competitive most of the year was a heck of a coaching job.
