After five straight HCs that were never HCs before the Jets, and with the record they compiled, I really think this time the Johnsons are going to stick to candidates with previous NFL HCing experience.
I'm reading reports that Miami will fire Adam Gase. He wouldn't be a bad fallback option if they can't get Jim Harbaugh. Plus he fits the experienced head coach requirement many fans seem to have. They'll probably have to act quickly I think Gase will be in demand.
An almost super bowl win and some almost super bowl appearances. I’d have no problems with him being the coach but that’s not the resume of a hc/gm total control candidate.
"I'm just focused on the bowl game. Currently I am the coach of the Michigan Wolverines and I'm just focused on preparing my team for the bowl game." There's nothing wrong with him if he said the phrase above. It also conveniently leaves the possibility open after the year. What he said was definitively that he's staying. That's a definitive statement. There was no need for him to say that.
That's believable to me. If you consider what the Ravens have at QB - either an aging, injured Flacco, or the unproven Jackson - compared to the Jets with Sam. If I'm Harbaugh and I could get a king's ransom from the Jets and coach a much better QB than what he currently has, I'd be jumping to NY.
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves with Sam. I'd take him over Jackson easily, but he's no franchise savior yet. And considering our owners and front office, we need him to be one.
If Sam stays healthy - a big IF I know - and he gets a new CS, there is no doubt i my mind that he'll be the best Jets QB since Namath. Maybe Harbaugh doesn't think so, but I guess we'll see.
It isn't just Darnold though. If Harbaugh were offered Darnold for Jackson straight up I'm sure he'd accept. But the Ravens have better owners, a better front office, and a better roster. So Harbaugh would likely still prefer the Ravens.
Updated my vote to Jim Harbaugh > Mike Tomlin (OTHER) > Mike McCarthy The main reason I like Tomlin is he understands how to play to team strengths. He doesn't hide his balls in his purse or take his foot off the gas and turtle when ahead. He goes for the jugular. He's the anti-Bowles. Sometimes his risks do not pay off, but I think they work more often than not.
I had to chime in on this. Whoever wants Carmichael needs to give their head a shake because all he’s done the past 10 years is hold a clip board for one of the best HC/QB combo’s in NFL history. I wouldn’t hire him as a OC that calls plays never mind a HC. The name I just can’t believe nobody is talking about is Vic Fangio. He has been unbelievable this year, improving young players and letting his stars make plays plus he runs a 3-4 D. I get everyone wants a offensive guy but we need the best guy available and maybe McCarthy doesn’t get a HC offer and takes a play calling OC role. I think not having Reggie McKenzie considered as a top GM role is unbelievable. His eye for talent is exactly what we need because we can’t mess this high pick up or this entire draft for that matter. My vote HC/DC - Vic Fangio OC - Mike McCarthy GM - Reggie McKenzie

What the hell? Bowles more likely to be back, than not? What are they thinking here? I couldn't find this bet on draft kings, but I'd bet my whole DK account on that "No."
I posted this in the Bowles thread, but it probably belongs here: The Cardinals are reportedly going to fire their first-year coach Steve Wilks, so add that to the list teams (hopefully) competing with the Jets for a replacement for Bowles. They will no doubt try to do exactly what the Jets will do, sell people on the great young quarterback (unlike the Packers, who will try to sell people on the great old quarterback). Unfortunately for the Cardinals, there's a whole lot less evidence of potential greatness in Rosen's year than there is in Darnold's year. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...dump-coach-steve-wilks-after-just-one-season/ Interestingly enough, McCarthy has been linked to the Cardinals since last year, and rumors have again had him interested in the job if it became available. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...pursuing-cardinals-coaching-job-if-available/
