Barry is right. It was like sailing on a lake that day. Anytime I can hold bottom all day long with 4oz of lead in 30-50' of water, something isn't right. The guy next to me held bottom with 1.5oz! No wind, no current. The boat didn't move which of course, meant the guys with the bucktails had to work the hell outta them just to get a nibble.

Of course, near the end of the day, the wind picked up and so did the fishing. Like magic, we had a drift and current both going in the same direction. Suddenly, large fish started coming over the rails. If we would have had that drift all day long, everyone would have limited out.

Great day overall. Barry and I kicked back, drank a few Stellas and enjoyed a wonderful day on the ocean.

Cya next year Barry! I'll bring extra rods so you won't have to use a boat rod again.

did they give em a 4/0 senator with 60# test...... ?

man, it's been a long time. last time I fished on a "party boat" for bluefish was out of Captree, probably '92 ( or '93) I remember out drinking most of my dad's friends, while catching the most fish. Then my dad asked if I had my fake ID on me, as we tried to go to OBI afterwards, but they wouldn't let our grubby asses in. Good Times

Great Pics! I didn't know until that trip that house was actually a Italian Embassy compound. Believe it or not, that house survived Sandy with barely a scratch! Go figure..

I'm going out this upcoming weekend for fluke again. This time, perhaps we'll do the Big Mohawk instead as that boat usually leaves earlier, stays out later, and has less of a crowd. Fluke season ends Sept 27th and SeaBass season picks up again on that date. I'm just not into Ling and its too early for Porgies. My time for bottom fishing is usually late Sept and all of Oct.

Until then, I'm hearing scattered reports of the big blues are moving closer to shore. The Golden Eagle out of Belmar found a patch of 6-12lb blues and has started on them at night. I've already got my share of the snappers so I'm waiting for the big boys to get into the action.

Stinky, those boat rods & reels are, to coin a phrase from Rex, "BRUTAL". Never lubed and old as hell. Might as well gave Barry steel rebar to fish with. I should have asked if he had any gear here. I've got a ton of shit I don't even use and could have easily brought an extra rod & reel along.

Next time I'm back east you should join us. We'll probably go on the same boat too. The more the merrier.

I've caught plenty of Snapper..... (no pun intended) but no big "MULEs" (best prob. 15lbs)
Unfortunately Red Snapper is now closed on the East Coast of FL. They had a 3 day "mini-season" 2 weeks ago, of course one of the days was T-storm city, and the other blew NE 15-20kts. lol

I've yet to land a Tarpon though. I was hoping this summer to be taking a "sleigh ride" in my kayak from a Poon or big Kingfish this summer...... but instead my foot's still in a boot, and I'm on a message board on a saturday morn. :shit:

Haven't fished much lately, mostly work and hiking. From couple weeks ago, scored some Taco (octopus) and made Kim chee style

And scored some Menpachi, ready for pan fry

You're quite welcome to come along next season if we go Byz. Same for anybody interested. You pay less if you're just along for the ride too and not fishing. The kind of fishing we'll be doing is low intensity. That is, you can fish and relax at the same time. We're not talking gorilla blues here. Just some good eating fluke.
