Found some Bluefish I vacuum sealed last year in my freezer. Will be using some of it 2wks from now for my 1st Tile trip.
Well, it looks like I used up my cobia mojo.... the streak ended saturday morning as I tried to run out for a quick strike mission. Actually had a shot at one, but had one hand on the throttle trying to adjust the boat's drift.... almost had the rod ripped from my hand... then 50' away my buddy running a charter hooks up with a 40"er... DOH I did get a 20" flounder (fluke to you ) on the slowpitch jig to avoid a skunk at least
Sounds like a salvaged trip with the Fluke catch. Lucky your rig didn't wind up in Davey Jones' locker!
Super strong.... minimum legal size is 36" at the fork (can get 80lbs or so)... pretty damn fun on that light tackle. No BFTs here... ever
Headed out tomorrow for a 1.5 day Tilefish trip. Weather looks marginal with medium seas and wind in the Hudson Canyon. Bringing 1 entirely new rig and 1 new reel to see how it performs. Got some new sash weights too as the headboats only provide bank sinkers and we're fishing @ 500ft + .
Due to current, the experience was more a trial by ordeal than a nice comfy fishing trip. We were in 500ft+ most of the trip but had to use 5lbs of lead to hold bottom. Wore my battery down far faster than usual and made for a challenging day. Stuck myself twice with hooks and that was painful. All in all, not my best nor my worst trip.
Thanks! Missed my limit but came home with a few really nice Goldens. Got several more Deep Drop trips planned this year including one in the GoM. Movin on from inshore headboat fishin.
