It’s crazy to me that some are still defending him with nothing tangible other than two total worthless excuses of: (1) he “deserves” another year due to the bad roster that no coach could win with, and (2) we need continuity and we can’t just keep firing coaches Other than those two lame excuses, I’ve seen no argument that actually points to something specific with merit. Not a one. Because there’s really nothing about this team this year that you could point to as a positive building block. Nothing. To debunk the excuses: (1) first off, I’d say NO ONE “deserves” anything…you have to earn it. And the point is that while most of us expected very few wins (consensus was what, somewhere around 5 wins?), we have underperformed expectations in terms of how the team has actually played, not just in terms of only 3 wins, of which 2 were miracle special teams wins. We have been totally uncompetitive in what, half our games? Our defense, with many of the same players, got worse than it was under Saleh/Ulbrect, and that was before the trades of Q and Sauce. And the poor roster is on Glenn as well…he replaced AR with Fields, and then coached Fields to his worst season ever. Players who looked better under Saleh are much much worse now with guys like Quincy and Sherwood…like them or not, they played better in Saleh’s system. Glenn’s choice of DC was a total fail. Long story short, Glenn and his staff have not elevated any player and in fact most are playing worse, and while the record sucks, the one click down shows an even worse story with the way we’ve lost, the blowouts, the total breakdowns on D, the complete lack of picks, etc. It’s not just that we have been losing, it’s HOW we have been losing. (2) I don’t know how to counter this argument other than to say I think it’s a complete lack of logic…continuity comes when the team is successful…there is a reason why Tomlin, Harbaugh, Reid, etc. have long tenures…it’s because they win. They’ve had success. That is what breeds continuity. You can give a mediocre coach 2 years, 3 years, 5 years, doesn’t matter, he will not become a great coach. With Glenn, if we could be pointing to SOMETHING, ANYTHING to hang our hat on, I’d say ok, we only won 3 or 4 games, but man he got the defense on track, or man he got the offense on track, whatever…but you can’t. There is literally nothing to look at and say it’s a solid building block. We’re not looking for a winning season, by the way, but just some progress. That’s how fucking low the bar is. And he hasn’t even come close. In short, we have kind of an unprecedented chance to REALLY build our team with all these picks…keeping a mediocre/terrible coach like Glenn to use them would be a waste. We already know he’s bad…why waste another year and some picks to confirm what we can already see? This is a unique opportunity to lure a new coach here with all these picks, but if I know Woody, he will blow it…he’ll keep Glenn and then he’ll suck and will get fired midway through the year or at the end and we’ll be looking for a new guy again…but this time without all those picks in front of the new coach…
Come on, Johnson is oblivious to PR, public sentiment and empty seats - the proof is in the decision made to increase ticket prices going forward from this season's abject failure.
Think about this, we need new infrastructure on offense for the QB, the most important part, we just fired a DC and hence need new infrastructure on defense, but we are keeping the Head Coach. This is simply ridiculous. Also, @mezzavo I believe brought this up before that prospects don't want to go to the Jets, and now this has actually been corroborated by Connor Rodgers, who discussed with Jake Asman of ESPN. Think about this, we are bring in lame duck coach, who will have difficult time getting other coaches and players, agents confirmed by Connor Rodgers don't want their players going there, and we need to change infrastructure on both offense and defense. After historically bad year. To keep Glenn at this point would be insane, it really would. Certainly if you want the team to succeed. 28:55 is the agent bit
I saw this earlier from Conner, it's no surprise players don't want to come here but agents saying draft picks want to avoid us, Jesus.
Another reason to make a change. Also, his answer to the question about his brand of football. The fact that we played Glenn's brand of football in the second half of a blowout against Jacksonville is all that anyone needs to know. Unreal.
People thought I was off my boat anchor but I don't float ridiculous theories unless I have some kind of insight. No, I don't know the specific people Connor was talking about but I "tried" to relay a conversation I had with someone with a top QB recruit in high school. NO ONE wants to come to the Jets. Not willingly if they can help it. You get drafted, it is what it is, but if you have an avenue that takes you OUT of the draft or, at the very least, out of the reach of the Jets they are doing it, if they can. If they are talking about it at the high school level you know they are talking about it in college, which has now been proven. Which is worse, staying in school for a "mere" $3million and the potential to get drafted by a team where you'll have a long career or forego the $3 million to come to the Jets and be next to guaranteed to have your career either stunted or ruined? Folks talk about the money, once in the pro's, but there is short term money and long term money. The Jets are short term money. Sad but true.
