And i think you're absolutely right my friend. Mauldin belongs there sooner than later. Way more explosive than Pace is and is pretty good against the run game too. Of course this has to be proven in the pro's though, but he has the instinct.
Doesn't mean you cut Pace lol especially not after paying him his bonus. If Mauldin flat out wins the job and guys like Reilly prove to be capable back ups then you cut someone like Pace. No point in doing it now.
Hopefully they'll cut him right before the season starts--He has never been the pass rusher we thought we were getting when he was originally signed by the jets.
I'd keep him. He had 5 sacks last year but didn't he have ten the year before. I've always liked the guy.
He's definitely old and slow but I think he could help guys like Mauldin and IK learn to set the edge and recognize blocking schemes a lot quicker, he knows he's on his way out and he'll probably be more of a rotational player anyway, I don't see the use in cutting him this early.
While that might be true, its nice having some continuity on this team. Seems like Harris and now Revis, have been the only guys here since '08 on defense other than when they brought Pace in. While Pace was nothing quite like we intended him to be, he has produced for this team on a consistant basis and is still a far cry from the garbage we used to have in Gholston and Bryan Thomas (Gladys & Cactus haha!).
Yeah i agree.. i don't think he should be cut in training camp lol. Nothings proven until mauldin is playing on the field in the pro's. He could be a bust for all we know.
I didn't expect some all world pass rusher when the Jets signed him, he was all but considered a bust in Zona before his final year there when they moved him to OLB, and he's been solid if not spectacular for the Jets
sure we do. mac drafted him and he's great. we know mac's great because he spent all that money in FA that the league rules said he had to spend, plus he drafted guys. I'd say Mauldin is likely a HOFr.
Pace is still a productive LB'er and that position is our biggest question mark going into the season. Until someone steps up we can't afford to let him go.
I agree but now is the time to get younger at OLB--You don't keep a guy around for what they have done in the past--You pay them for what will do for you now--Unless you're Terry Boobway who lets go of all the promising young players (McKenzie, Coles, Jordan) to play all the grizzled vets.
I'm sure Bowles would want to see him play a professional game first before penciling him in anywhere. But this is likely Pace's last year as a Jet.
Let Pace play out his final year, he'll provide veteran leadership and depth at a position that doesn't have much proven young players outside of Coples. We have a lot of developmental guys there. If somebody like Mauldin or IK emerges then that's one thing.
