Suddenly, the Wild's defense looks great. Their offense can score at will. Their new goaltender hasn't allowed a goal in a Minnesota uniform. After losing six straight games and 12 of 14, the Wild punctuated their first win since Jan. 2 in blowout fashion Thursday night. The skidding Wild looked like the team of old in a 7-0 beatdown of the Buffalo Sabres. It was the largest margin of victory in Wild franchise history in a game that was lopsided from the get-go. "It's nice to win that way," said Wild forward Jason Pominville, a former Sabres captain. "But we would've taken 1-0 or 2-1 or any type of win at this point." After a month of hockey in which little went right, little went wrong for the Wild Thursday night. A team struggling because of poor goaltending was lifted by Devan Dubnyk, who made his Wild debut after Minnesota traded for him Wednesday. He provided the Wild's first shutout since Oct. 23. The defense that looked lost the past month? Suddenly structured. The inconsistent offense? Dominating. The Wild would be unstoppable if only they could play the Sabres 82 times a season. It was only one game after six straight losses, and it was a win over a team that has now lost nine straight. But it was a much-needed victory for the Wild regardless.
Buffalo led Detroit 3-0 and lost 6-4 deja vu of another game they had recently led 3-1 with like 21 minutes left and blew that too (to lose 6-3 IIRC)
I have Oilers-Capitals tickets for tomorrow. I forgot it was The State of the Union Address the same night. Hope DC isn't too nuts.
At least they will have better views at a football stadium as opposed to a baseball stadium for hockey. I am still waiting for a Pitt-Philly winter classic at Beaver Stadium in State College, PA. That would be pretty cool.
