I'd LOVE Hackett, HC stint means NOTHING. LIKE BOWELS, good DC poor HC...several others same situation. Hackett would be VERY nice.
The only thing I can think of is that it is probably a good idea to talk to candidates around the League just to gather some information. Are we really seriously considering NE TE coach as on OC? NE offense sucked, and he is a nobody there.
So they continue to want to hire guys with no experience as an OC. SMH. Even though he has a decent amount of experience working with different coaches/teams, how does that qualify him to step up to OC?
I hope it’s just due diligence but considering it’s a team in the playoffs and not someone like Olsen who is sitting home right now is definitely concerning. Though maybe the playoff availability is why they went to him first. I know previous experience doesn’t have to be a requirement but it should be near the top of the list.
Also, can anyone explain why we’d be interested in the Pats TE coach when their OC’s are a former DC and a former special teams coach? What are we doing?
This Is going worse than I even imagined. Hard to do! Sure hope we can get such a quality hire like the NE TE coach. What an amazing offense they have and I'm glad we fired a guy with experience and a system already installed here, just to hire an inexperienced OC with who the fuck knows what kind of new offense this team will need to learn now. Christ.
You don’t think a guy who couldn’t beat out 2 guys with like negative offensive coaching experience for the genius in NE would be a good fit?
Saleh isn't gonna hire anyone that can threaten his job. I think Saleh knows he's a lame duck in '23 although nothing has been said. If he thinks he can sell an inexperienced OC to this fanbase and team? He's in for a rude awakening and his rah rah bullshit will fall flat. I was afraid of this. Fire a inexperienced, ineffective OC and hire an inexperienced, ineffective OC to replace him with.. Obviously Saleh is smoking something really strong...
The Jets may have to go get a QB before they can get anybody decent to consider taking the position. Nobody worth hiring is likely to come on board with an unresolved QB situation where the 3 guys they're looking at are Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco. It's just not happening.
And your evidence for this is? it’s just as logical to say the guy is available for a reason(old team didn’t want him) and at this stage he’s predictable. I’m not sure if you have lateral hires in your profession. I do in mine. Very mixed records…
Saleh likely figures the worst case scenario is he gets fired next season and winds up as a DC in a better coaching structure.
Although some are trying to paint this revolving door OC position as prestigious and a great opportunity for whoever lands the job, history is littered with narratives about the situation going sideways in a hurry and without warning. The one thing all the previous failed Jet OCs have had in common is the lack of an established QB to run the offense. Even Vince Lombardi would have had trouble moving the ball with the collection of inadequate QBs the Jets have a talent for unearthing. But this is different, or so we are told.
