The Phillies swapped an ace for an ace. Halladay may get them around 2, 3 more wins tops than what Lee would have likely gotten them this year. On top of that, Halladay is a year older, and he's pitched a ton of innings the past few years. He's going to break down soon, and the Phils are going to have to sign him to a contract that may exceed 150M. On top of this, they gave up some prospects. Not the end of the world. Forget the Phils. Let's worry about what we have to do to get better. I never considered the Mets in the sweepstakes for either Lackey or Halladay anyways.

-try to sign Bengie to a 1 yr deal.

-sign 2 FA pitchers. Marquis and Sheets/Bedard/Pineiro. I would have liked Harden or Penny, but they're gone....

    -Bay/Holliday/Crawford.

-Sign Matt Capps, and Aroldis for the future.

    -Trade Castillo, sign O-dog.

There are some interesting non-tender candidates as well..

Capps is going to have so many offers, even despite his huge hr numbers.

Met fans are spewing hatred on the FAN right now. I actually feel kinda bad for you guys...

...It's gonna be fun to laugh though when I see you guys give Jason Marquis 2 years at 18 million.

I am hearing it is only 3 years/60-70 mil, fuck this team we concentrate on fucking Bengie Molina while we see the best FA pitcher go to Boston and the Phils get a top 3 pitcher in baseball. Marquis is trash and we've been trying to trade Castillo for years now, just cut that asshole.

Lackey's a great #2, he's not a true ace. He was the best available FA SP in the market this offseason and got ace-type money. Halladay would have been amazing but a trade just wasn't possible. Reports are saying the Jays wanted Reyes. The Phils didn't upgrade THAT much. It would have hurt a lot more if they kept Lee. Losing Lee lessens the sting of them getting Halladay.

Honestly, I foresaw many of the problems the team would have this year last offseason, but even I didn't think it'd be this bad. Off the bat I pegged both our OF spots as question marks, in addition to 2b, 1b, catcher, and the middle of our rotation. No one could have seen all the injuries. I'm tired of these quick fixes, and i'm tired of seeing us mortgaging our future, in terms of prospect and shit loads of money. The only true ace the market had to offer was Halladay, and that was never going to be a probable move for us. Let's get some innings eaters and I'll be okay.

The problem is that we badly need a great #2 not some overpaid innings eater the dropoff from Lackey to the rest of the starters was enormous and the Phillies ended up signing a top 3 pitcher for cheap, you wouldn't believe how much this annoys me

    Fire Omar

This team just doesn't get it.

If they think they are going to sell seats by signing Marquis and Joel freakin Pinero they got another thing coming to 'em.

Guys who are reliable and eat innings up is exactly what we need. Relying on Maine, Perez, and Pelfrey to get us into the 6th every start was fucking asinine. We have an absolute ace in Johan. Filling in the rest w/ Steve Trachsel/Al Leiter type pitchers wouldn't be the worst idea. Steady, reliable guys that won't tax our bullpen.

In case you guys don't remember, we were probably the best baseball team in 2006, and that team consisted of a (still, at the time) great ace in Pedro, followed by steady guys in Glavine and Trachsel, and then filled out by El Duque, Maine, and Perez. Glavine was a bit older and Traxx was always mediocre, at the time both couldn't be considered great 2's.

And yet, we still kicked ass that year, because on any given night, those 2 guys would give us good, reliable innings. Having a rotation of Johan, 2 of pineiro/marquis/bedard/sheets, pelfrey, and maine/perez is good enough. Our problem is getting some more power in the lineup, as well as staying healthy, and defense at LF and 1B could stand to get some upgrades.

2006 was a fucking long time ago this team even when healthy is a pathetic shell of that team and the Phillies now are miles ahead of any team from that 2006 season on the NL side, we need more than 1 reliable starter in this rotation and getting another 4/5 in a rotation full of 4s and 5s is meaningless and this isn't even bringing up the obvious holes in our lineup and bullpen

Lol, thing is, with the 4's and 5's, we didn't even have them last year, either. Pelfrey was a head job, Maine was gone, and Perez was on Mars.

    Season Tickets?

Should I renew my season tickets despite only a 6% cut in my seat prices? Fucking tired of this team and the organization. They treat the fans like shit.

Honestly if it was Reyes for Halladay straight up I would have made that trade. Reyes is a good SS but I'd hardly call him elite. When he is healthy he gives us an excellent chance to win but he still is far from elite. He's far from easily replacable but having a rotation that consisted of Johan and Halladay would make up for any offense we would lose with Reyes.

apparently Hallady is willing to accept a 3 year/$60M contract, which is supposedly below market value. Lee, on the otherhand, was not willing to sign a team-friendly deal and wanted an extension equal to what he would get on the FA market. Phillie, as you said, is trading an "ace for an ace," but are saving money long-term

Agreed I think a lot people would've done it too. Reyes is coming back from an injury, he's played like crap the last 2 years, and is still a child on the field. But, same Ol' Omar.

They're also giving up Happ or Drabek but the issue isn't who the Phils gave up but it's the fact that the Mets are sitting on their asses while the teams they need to beat (Atlanta and Philly are getting better)
