While I am happy with the pick we got, and I"m very pleased with the front office. I do feel the Jets could have gotten a bit more for Abraham. Maybe the 22 pick, maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder as well. I'm not dissing them, and I'm happy with the outcome, but I think we could have done a bit better. The real problem was when we agreed to trade Abe for the 31st pick. Kinda put the value on him right there.
I like what I see with this FO. Now the question becomes: are they able to evaluate talent and manage a game as effectively as they can run a business. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt, but we just don't know yet. What we do know is this, however: Bradway would never have waited the Falcs out for a better deal.
I see your point, but we dont know how the draft would have turned out so we dont know if J Abe value would have increased or decreased. atleast now Jets have 2 1st rounders and can make a move to trade up, or just keep the picks. but i think if they sign Runyon then i think they have to tryand get leinart
I think this FO did a great job. Sure, we may not have gotten EXACTLY what we wanted (Schaub, etc.), but we still got a first rounder. We didn't cave in and accept a 2nd rounder for Abe. Good job guys. This bodes well for future dealings.
This deal goes a LONG way towards making me feel like there might be light at the end of the long, winding, disasterous tunnel that is being a Jets fan.
Actually, didn't something have to get done by the end of this week? Something about a franchised player not being able to negotiate with another team until July? I don't think we could have traded him before the draft if it wasn't this week. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that's what I read.
As KSJets94 said I believe if the Jets did not move Abe by Friday they would not be able to move him til mid-july because of needed a contract to be negotiated. Also, if the Jets waited that long to move Abe they would miss out on a lot of FA that they can now sign with the money they just freed up by moving Abe.
If this is the case, name a pass rushing DE that has gotten that type of return in a trade? Kevin Carter was franchised and then traded by the Rams for the 29th pick in 2001. At the time of the trade Carter was the same age as Abraham, had never missed a game due to injury, and had 28 sacks the previous 2 years (Abraham 21).
I have to give credit to the Jets for sticking to their guns and getting a 1st rounder for Abraham. They also deserve credit for their creativity (how often do you see a 3 team deal in the NFL?) in order to get what they want. I definately couldn't see Bradway ever doing something like that. I think I would have personally dealt a mid round pick or 2 to get #15 instead, but that's an issue for another day.
Fair market value has been destroyed by giant player contracts, so spare me that diatribe. If you want to be angry at someone, point it at Daniel Snyder. If you sat and held out for fair market value, you'd be the worst GM in the history of the game. And we got a first round pick in an enormously deep draft, so that pick's value is actually higher in a relative sense.
Couldn't have said it better. Everything is relative to what the team deems to be "value". In a deep draft, that some has said is up to 36 players with 1st round grades. Having a 2nd round 1 pick is crucial!
I am happy with what Tangini has been doing but I don't believe it's as "new" or "refreshing" as people make it out to be. I think a lot of that just comes from people giving them a bit too much credit just for not being TB and Herm. Personally a lot of what I've heard and seen done by this regime isn't much different overall then what was done in the past. I think these two may bring some new things to the table that may turn out to be what this organization needed to get over the hump but only the future will let us know if that's true or not.
