Not AS good but the comparison is definitely valid. Jones isn't a sexy back but people want to believe that somehow if you plugged anyone else in there they'd be leading the NFL by far when that simply isn't true... as far as "it" goes, Jones has "it".
He played well, but the failure to clinch it with two yards the last possession in regulation keeps it from being that worthy of talk. He makes that, then yeah. It's natural that people end up talking about the players who come through in the clutch, when it's over or out. Favre and Keller got it done on 3rd and 15 when they had to, Jones couldn't on 3rd and 2. That's just the way it goes, that's why we're talking about them and not Jones. Actually, when I read this thread, I thought it was gonna be about Cotchery. He really made some great plays & hung in there despite taking some real punishment.
No way Keller gets his without Jones running the way he did. One thing I'll give the coaching staff credit for is sticking with the run.
You know, there are times when getting a yard on the ground just makes all the difference in the world. TJ did that on the goal line tonight and I just loved him for it.
jones definitely had some moments tonight in the first half and they made a big difference in the way the lbs from ne played. one thing i didnt like was all the hesitation he ended up making inthe backfield for portions of the night. he definitely danced in the backfield more than i would like to see and much more than i have seen him do this year. i am a big jones fan but i will still bring up the negatives when i see them.
ABSOLUTELY ... 850 something yards ... 9 TD's ... 4.5+ YPC ... Leading the AFC ... Amazing what a decent line can do for a good running back
One more UNHERALDED PLAYER .... I for one was hoping that Leon would get his 3rd TD of the night .... Would have been 3 games in a row where a JET has scored 3 TD in a game
The line improved, but I feel that the threat of a passing game via Favre keeps defenses honest and opens up opportunities to run the ball. Team effort none the less.
I think you're thinking of #28, but I agree. Martin was never very fancy or flashy, but what a hell of a durable, dependable back.
You my good man IMHO are CORRECT in that observation ... Brett in there adds an air of uncertainty ... and he can definetly still toos the rock ... ABSOLUTLEY A TEAM EFFORT
Excellent post  I lost my internet connection last night, so I wasn't able to get on this site after the game until now, otherwise I would have posted this myself.
I am starting to think that the JETS running game is starting to take shape and there's no better time for it than now going down the stretch. With Favre starting get his respect back and the O-line starting to trust eachother this things is only going to improve. It's huge when when it's 3rd and 4 as oppossed to 3rd and 9,10 or worse. And when you need a shot in the arm it's nice to know you can make 15 yards to keep a drive going. I thought the game was over in overtime at 3rd and 15. But I forgot Favre was back there. TJ and Leon are a nice package. If the JETS draft more talented offensive linemen FO-GETTA ‘BOUT IT.
