The people who told everyone that we were winning despite Zach and not because of him are the same people saying we're now losing despite White playing pretty well. It's really not hard to separate QB play from wins and losses. We'd have won at least 1 of the Pats games (and probably both of them) with White playing instead of Wilson. We likely would've lost the last 2 games by more than we did had Wilson been playing in them. It's also pretty ironic that the same people who were making excuses for Zach by saying he hadn't played a full season's worth of games yet (ignoring the progress that should happen during the offseason) are now saying that White is only better because he has more experience (despite him having 1/3rd of Zach's in-game experience).
No one was arguing the pedestrian aspect of it, but this is all about winning games, and whatever your stand is, at the end of the day this team with the much improved passing game has to figure out how to do it or it doesn’t mean squat. This team is good enough to win now. That much was proven even with a pedestrian QB. Spot on. The notion we won despite one and lost despite the other is utter rubbish. Trying way too hard to sink one and glorify the other.
Yeah, agreed. It is as if people don't understand you can support Mike White and Zach Wilson. I am getting annoyed with the fans who choose to only trash one and cheer on the other. It makes no sense to me. I want the Jets to succeed. I think they can with Mike White, but they need to play mistake free for the final 4 weeks. I also agree Zach can learn from the bench. He was thrown into the fire last year and it looks like it set him back. If Mike White can't go due to his ribs, it has to be Zach though. I can't watch the Jets lose with Joe Flacco at QB. That would be too cruel. I disagree with the hypotheticals, but I do agree with the QB play part. Clearly Mike White has played pretty well the last 3 games, and Zach has struggled most of the season. It is about winning and losing though. White lost the last 2 games. If he won them, I would get fans being so excited for him, but he lost. I hope he succeeds these final 4 games, but nothing is guaranteed. Including him being a good QB. That is my issue. The fans who assume Mike White is great and Zach Wilson is terrible. Just doesn't make sense to me.
The bold is not fact, just a guess. Every game is different. Only fact is this team improved at the QB position and we lost to the Vikings shit defense. Spare me the speculations
What I find strange is the fact that people feel compelled to shit on one QB to support the other QB even after the change. After a Mike White win, instead of rejoicing for the victory, some took it as another way to crucify Zach and pile it on. Yet, after two losses by Mike, and putting the playoffs at risk, guess what., we continue with the same crappy hyperbole BS towards Zach. Are we stupid enough not to accept that the best for the Jets is for both of them to succeed.
You got to give JD some major kudos, Hall would have been in my opinion offensive rookie of the year if he stayed healthy, an absolute stud. Bam was an awesome under the radar pick up. And the list goes on. An even with that, a few literati here criticize JD for neglecting the OL, after a shit load of good moves while the bulk of the starters move to injury reserve one time or another.
Can we move beyond just saying someone else’s opinion is rubbish? It’s just a different opinion. I think Mike White has played significantly better than Zach did. It doesn’t mean I’m writing Zach off and it doesn’t mean I’m trying to glorify Mike White.
I hate the “hate on Zach” narrative when he’s won games for the Jets this year. Yes he shat the bed too but let’s not act like he didn’t contribute some wins. And it’s okay to believe that and also feel Mike White is the better QB/future QB despite the records being what they are.
Very fair input. I think all would completely agree particularly with the bold. But there are some here that are speculating what games we would have won or lost if the QB roles were reversed and that is just hyperbole IMO. Time to mover on, give White 1000% support, and hope that if something happens to him, God forbid, we have a backup that can keep us going strong.
Likewise CC, IMHO this is circular logic. By your logic, ZW should be better then MW essentially because he had 20 NFL starts vs. 5 for MW. Remember who had all the 1st team reps since he was drafted... not Mr. W.
Here is to the accuracy of speculation. We were at least 1 game ahead playoff wise two weeks ago. Not one of us forecasted two consecutive losses. If you can forecast wins and losses we would sink the gambling mecca.
Out of curiosity, why are we saying Mike White had only 5 starts in the NFL, may be with the Jets. He has been around longer than with us.He is battle ready. I saw him starting for Dallas against the Jets years ago. Damned near beat us.
I think most Jets fans wanted Zach to succeed. If he gets another shot here which he probably will they will once again root for him to succeed. I for one was never fond of the Zach pick and wanted to trade out and keep Sam until we had more talented team, doesn’t mean I rooted against him. I am of the mindset that White needs to keep starting the rest of the year no matter what. If we lose games because of him and his poor play, we can cut bait - but even more so than Zach we need to see if he should be signed before hitting the FA market. I think we have seen enough to know with a decent o line protecting him and a running game, he is more than capable to run this offense at a high level.
We should give him more than he's had. That doesn't mean he should be starting, but you're far too quick to write him off after less than 2 years at 23 years old. Of course given that you wrote him off from the very beginning it must seem like you've given him far more time.
Well yes but this is a website where dudes discuss football games. Wondering about where we would be if the coach switched the QB sooner is why this site exists
