Just one more great thread about the horrible performance of the "art" of journalism.

Amazing how the media told Mangini that if he didn't give in to them, they would turn on him, and turn the fans on him too.

As we've seen over the past few weeks, the clearest example being that Vaccaro "article," we don't give a damn what the media has to say.

Now I understand some guys want a little more info, but I personally don't care. I'll let the play on the field show me all the information I need. I don't care what the QB order is. I don't care who the starting RB is. I don't care who is winning the jobs at CB. I do care about wins. I do care about seeing an improving team every week, even if it is during a loss. Unless you are concerned about players for your fantasy team, I don't see any need to know the information inside the Jets clubhouse.

I posted in the BS forum before about Sportscenter basically fabricating a story. It's all over. The media outlets no longer care about reporting. They simply want to present you with their current opinion, and watch how many sheep flock to pasture.

F the media. All of it. Go Mangini! Go Jets!

I'm afraid I agree. Mangini is playing a dangerous game. He does not need to give the media everything, but he is not being diplomatic enough. The beat writers often control the opinions of the average fan. If he has alienated them, he had better put a winning team on the field because he will not be given the benefit of the doubt by the media if the team struggles. He is unfortunately setting himself up to not get a fair shake should things go badly.

I dont know..I mean..I can see your points.

Its seems like everyday I pick up the paper lately...or read a jet article online...Mangini is saying nice things about a player. Today it was about dbrick and mangold. Read another article about dyson..and Mangini was saying he has come a long way and is doing really well. He has talked about Pennington being such a pro with his rehab..and his preseason.

I have read how he thinks db's are doing fine...and complimented Ramsey.

He does this day in and day out...every article with a quote with his name on it..he has been very fair to the players.

I think whats bothering these writers is that Herm just flat out spoiled them...this is a tough time of the year for these writers...and Herm just made it easy. The last 5 years were filled with articles about future 7th round superstars that either got cut...or barely contributed.

If they want to get on him about the Jets way of handling the truth about injuries..well they better take a long look around the league...because except for the parrot in KC, most coaches are doing the same.

My take is....if Mangini doesn't produce results, the press will turn on him like piranhas. I think it's one thing to be secretive, it's another to be arrogant. You can put up with Parcells and ways because he's earned that right. Mangini hasn't achieved anything yet and he's acting like he's mini Belicheck.

The only thing I would say to that is the Parcells wasnt Mr. Rodgers and BB wasnt the pope to start with.

You have to be consistent with who you are. Now if I were to find out that Mangini was the life of the party during his stay up in New England and when he was hired he tried acting like those two...I would totally agree.

Something about this group of guys (the press down in Miami thinks Saban is worse than all of them). Thats the way they all believe in doing things.

You are correct..if he fails..he will have a big fat bulls eye on his forehead...but I give him even more credit knowing that they will eat him up and spit him out if he fails...yet he still sees no need to cater to them or kiss their ass.

That's what's primarily relevant to this debate. As you point out Mangini has to be true to who he is and then he also has to have success.

It's all going to boil down to whether or not Mangini can be successful in his tenure as Jet's coach. If he can then the writers lose. If he cannot then everybody else loses.

    I'm with Mangini.

I think the press has already turned on him! We dismiss this at first because we know they are just whining about not getting all access. But the press knows it is a cumlative effect and with time they can sway the common fan to their line of thinking.

It like the way the democrats take petty shots at Bush in hopes that they will cumulate into changing our opinions. While Clinton was in office it was the same thing with the republicans.

I would say that those of us here are loyal fans and the press knows that they will not sway us so they don't even try.
