Seriously, let's round up an army of short, undrafted players and change the team name to the New York Chrebets and hope that the little man can win the Super Bowl. I want this guy to succeed, but rattling off measurables is retarded. Let's see him produce on the field in a regular season game, because that is where it matters, not at a college wearing track shoes, and not playing your entire college career against low-level competition. Rooting for the little guy is nice, but it rarely gets you anywhere but disappointed as a fan. If Woodhead succeeds, I will have no problems with this guy at all. But the Cult of Chrebet can be so sickening sometimes.
Why is it retarded when people are saying we're gonna miss Leon's speed and quickness and saying Leon is 10x the athlete Woodhead is?
I guess I should have watched Woodhead's demeanor at his Pro Day to determine what kind of a player he was, instead of, you know, um, seeing it on the field. I don't think it's retarded at all. I'm glad we brought Woodhead up when we did, and I think he has the potential to be a versatile depth player in a pinch, and we need depth on both the WR and RB corps right now. But I have seen Leon Washington do things on the field in a Jets uniform that make people go insane. He's that dynamic a player. The cuts he makes at full speed throw starting NFL corners out of their shoes. He can catch the ball on intermediate routes and turn it into huge gains. And he is terribly valuable as a return man. Woodhead has a nice skillset, and if he can contribute at this level, I'll be glad to have him on the team. But saw your post with their measurables and you saying he is more athletic than Leon, and I just had to laugh. You need a different kind of athleticism in the NFL than just those drills can determine, they are simply a general starting point for which teams can make decisions by. Was Leon an underdog when he came into the league? Yes, because of his size, just like Woodhead. But Leon has far more than speed and athleticism on his side that make him special at the pro level. Danny hasn't proven he can do that against starters for the Jets. I will wait and see on him, instead of getting my hopes up that we found another long-shot Mighty Mouse against all odds. I've learned over the years that getting your hopes up for a Jets player without seeing proof of their pro ability is an exercise in futility.
I just watched the Oakland game again. Sanchez stiil has no clue when it comes to ball security. None. Zero. Zilch. One would think after the NO debacle, he would have learned something? Nope. Zero. Zilch. He was non chalant at the combine, he is non chalant with a football. He's pretty good with a hot dog though.
He tucked it close enough when he ran into the EZ. Did he have a turnover?? Leave it alone, comeback on your high horse for his next bad game. disclaimer- my day is in its 12th hour of work and no end in sight. Damn new Domain controller, and BDC!!!
I am terribly hurt by your angry words, T-bird! How can you insult my 22 year old hero in such a cruel fashion!? Woe! Ball security can be learned over time, my man. This isn't Michael Vick we're talking about.
Remeber Pennington back in 02 with the one hand ball fakes with his back to the D. Man those really sucked big time. Here are some other QB's who apparently non chalant the football. Rothisberger 36 fumbles Brady 67 fumbles Rivers 35 fumbles Brees 52 fumbles Warner 94 fumbles Favre 158 fumbles Every one of those guys has a reasonable shot to get into the HOF.
He did have another fumble, also due to pitiful ball security against Oakland, but it bounced back to him. Lucky break. That was inside the 20 too. He did this silly fake shovel pass thing, and then never covered the ball as the rush got to him. He KNEW he was going to get hit, but still held the ball out. On the TD run, no, he NEVER did hold the ball against his body, never used two hands. In fact, for part of the run, he held the ball well out in front of him. I watched the game again today. Winston, Pennington, for as much as I liked and respected him, never got the fuckin idea of ball security either. But Pennington looks like Fort Knox compared to Sanchez in terms of ball security. Sanchez is going to get stripped of the ball a LOT, unless he can learn to protect the ball as well as he protcts a hot dog. LOL... I could care less about the hot dog thing, but it gets the Sanchez nut huggers all pissed off.
Here's my take on Woodhead: -He ran a 4.2-4.3 40-yard dash(yes, I'm actually using this) so he has to have some speed, probably depleted due to last year's ACL tear. However, I doubt he's dropped to OL speed. Hell, I doubt he's slower than Jones. -He was switched from HB to WR a few weeks ago so we know that the guy can catch and he's quick. This makes him dangerous in the open field, on screens, in the passing game, and on swing passes to get him to the outside. -The above points are the traits that Rex was touting in his press conference on Monday. We know that he likes to talk up his players, occasionally to an exaggerated level of praise (see: Vernon Gholston), but this is the most realistic role we could see Woodhead playing in the offense. This, along with the Miller signing, goes back to what Rex said about replacing Leon: it's going to take more than one person. Woodhead is not going to step in and make everyone forget who Leon Washington is. Woodhead is not going to step in and command a large chunk of the touches (regardless of how much I want the split to be as even as possible). What Woodhead is, potentially, going to do is try and step up and help out with the outside runs, off tackle runs, screens, and draws where Leon excelled.
considering tom brady fumbled 23 times in his 1st two years, and had a full season to sit and learn about ball security, i'm gunna go ahead and over look this bullshit. Brady also had 25 starts in Michigan to learn about ball security to Sanchez's 16. are we done about ball security for this rookie QB? its getting beyond ridiculous. If I can provide more stats to rape this claim about ball security i'll let you and everyone else know.
If you're a Jets fan the drafting of Sanchez and his development is probably the most exciting thing that has happened to this team in decades. We haven't drafted a high first round prospect with the talent of Sanchez since Namath. If you can't get excited about that it's hard to see how you can root for this team or get any enjoyment out of the team. As far as ball security for a QB the biggest issue is there intuitive nature in the pocket and their ability to back up and slide in the pocket and aviod the blind hits. Any QB who has their eyes down the field and are in position to throw are volunerable to putting the ball on the turf. Fumbles from the position usually come from guys who don't have that intuitive nature or can't back up while both seeing the field and moving away from pressure. Sanchez does those things surprisingly well for a young QB in fact much better than the other option on our team, Clemens which is one of the reasons he was drafted. This team has gotten some pretty shitty QB play over the years with a count on one hand amount of really good QB play over the years. I'm not convinced Sanchez is going to be a great NFL QB but it isn't based on ball security. The guy didn't have a full camp as the No. 1, hasn't had his number 1 WR healthy for weeks. Had his 2 and 3 WR traded and down with injury and replaced by a new WR half way through the season. The guy was great against Houston, NE and Miami. Stunk is up in a game we lose to NO anyway and as much as he sucked in the Buffalo game when he got the ball in OT took us right down the field and into FG range to win the game before some really bad penalties by other players cost us the game. Pulling an I told you so based on 7 games where in 3 of those games he was the consensus rookie of the week in the NFL and in the Miami game, which was a must win game was the single best player on the field for us is a little over the top.
ughhh...i forgot about the special teams. Leon's leg better heal up with no lingering problems....we need him at 100% next season. As far as his injury costing him "money" in his negotiations for a new contract....all Leon has to do is show tape on the Special Teams and the passing offense...and he should get his money.
