The combine is one part of the players interview, they also have private interviews and pro days as well. Saying he has a poor personality because of a few seconds you saw of him on TV is beyond ridiculous. The fact that he actually participated in all the drills says alot more about his personality then him spinning a football on his finger or whatever he was doing.
I never said he has a poor personality, and the fact that you are dismissing something you apparently didn't even see makes me think you're arguing for your own reasons.
QB's must be ridiculously over-confident. It's almost the defining quality of the difference makers at the position. Not to say that some guys just don't have the tools to go along with the ego but I'd rather have a brash, loud, over-confident idiot (Terry Bradshaw) at the position than a careful methodical thinker always worrying about how things look (Chad Pennington).
It was more than "a few seconds". He consistantly acted like he was above it all. For his own sake, I hope he dropped that attitude in his individual team interviews. I suppose I also have a bias against "California dudes". Losman, Lienart, Matt Jones, the surfer dudes often seem to lack the drive to suceed at the NFL level. They just seem a little too nonchalant, a little too cool for their own shoes. I don't think that kind of mental approach works in the NFL, not on the field, not with team mates, not with coaching staffs.
I was thinking how to look at this from the opposite viewpoint and I pretty much came up with your post, minus the Terry Bradshaw and Chad Pennington references. I don't like the idea of someone going into something like this unsure of themselves, either. However, because this is my own opinion based on what I saw and how I interpreted, I have to say it looked like he wasn't taking things very seriously. If I am wrong about him, it certainly wouldn't be the first time, but I'm sick of finding out too late that a player was a bum and knowing that I saw signs of it and ignored them.
Knowshon Moreno. Unproven qb's best friend is a strong running game, Oline, and defense. By the end of free agency we'll have we'll have the defense we all dreamed of, and an Oline that is amongst the best in the NFL. Lets improve on the running game. Imagine Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, and Knowshon Moreno in the same backfield??? That could spell disaster for a bunch of our opponents on our schedule next season or any season for that matter. I love TJ and he's running better then ever now, but he's 30 so may not be a bad idea to groom a replacement.
There are several promising RB's in this draft, and I would hope we draft one, but wait until the 2nd or 3rd round. Much depends on what happens with Scott. That is the pivotal issue heading into the draft if the Jets draft to need, and I think they have to. No doubt, we ned to have more than 2 RB's this year, especially if we run the ball more often which Ryan repeatedly hints at. I think Ryan will go defense in round 1, either CB or LB. Depends on Scott. Personally I like Donald Brown of UConn. Kid reminds me of... dare I say... Curtis.
The release of Coles make this a little more complicated. Still thinking CB, but WR could certainly creep in. Unless they pick up either position in FA, the decision will probably depend who's on the board.
The more I hear and read about him and watch him the more I'm sold on Hakeem Nicks. The knock on this kid was supposed to be speed and then he goes out and runs a 4.39 40 if im not mistaken.
It was a 4.49, I think, but I was sold on him before the combine. He could have ran a 4.60 and I'd still want him.
The draft needs to be all about the O. FA to fill in the wholes on D, draft to completely rebuild the O. Right now we are looking at one of if not the worst offenses in the league.
yea the Offense is shaping up to suck... TJ and LW not finding holes, and then the "trade them" threads will start. Keller will most likely have a sophomore slump and will get killed for it.. "where is this pass catching TE we traded up for!!!!????" Cotch and Crew will have bad numbers and all the while the fight for who should be starting at QB will continue because there is no sure #1 at QB. Last year was the first year in a long time there was no dispute who was the #1 QB on the Jets - no QB battles no "give the other guy a chance".. nothing. this team will wallow in mediocrity if its not taken care of... it still hasn't.
They haven't drafted a combine wowing LB in the first round in a long time. Vilma did ok at the combine and solidified his status as a mid first round pick. The only question was whether he or DJ Henderson would go first. Gholston was a defensive end. That the Jets tried to turn him into a 3-4 weakside linebacker was their bad.
Curry was real high on people's boards prior to the combine. All his workout did was solidify his spot.
Curry is a no shit prospect, maybe the safest pick in the draft like Jake Long was last year. Long made the pro bowl.
I just noticed this on espn.com 5 out of 10 guys have us taking Sanchez. We bring you the latest from ESPN's Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, NFL.com's Pat Kirwan and Charles Davis, Sports Illustrated's Don Banks, CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco, NFLDraftScout.com's Rob Rang and Chad Reuter, Chris Steuber of Scout.com, the National Football Post's Wes Bunting and Pro Football Weekly. Kiper's pick: Percy Harvin, Florida receiver McShay's pick: Mark Sanchez, Southern California quarterback Kirwin's pick: Hakeem Nicks, North Carolina receiver Davis' pick: Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest cornerback Banks' pick: Jeremy Maclin, Missouri receiver Prisco's pick: Rey Maualuga, Southern California linebacker Rang's pick: Mark Sanchez, Southern California quarterback Reuter's pick: Mark Sanchez, Southern California quarterback Steuber's pick: Percy Harvin, Florida receiver Bunting's pick: Mark Sanchez, Southern California quarterback PFW pick: Mark Sanchez, Southern California quarterback
If Sanchez is there they really have to take him. Passing on Sanchez and taking a wide receiver would absolutely destroy the franchise if the WR busted. PSL's? LOL. And the Jets revenue streams are going to be hurting like everybody else's over the next year or three. They NEED to sell those PSL's. WR's don't sell PSL's, not even star WR's. Star QB's? They sell PSL's. So basically the Jets are screwed either way if the player they take busts, however they're golden if they take Sanchez and he proves out. If they take say, Harvin or Nicks and he proves out but Sanchez proves out somewhere else then the Jets just look stupid, again. And that won't sell any PSL's. Think about passing on Dan Marino. Think about passing on Brett Favre. Think about missing out on Peyton Manning. The Jets can't afford to pass on Sanchez if he's there at 17. Here's a chart to kind of explain it: Jet's take Sanchez and he proves out - WIN Jet's take WR and he proves out and Sanchez busts - WIN Jet's take WR and he proves out and Sanchez proves out - LOSS Jet's take Sanchez and he busts - LOSS Jet's take WR and he busts - LOSS For the Jets to WIN taking the WR he has to prove out AND Sanchez has to bust. For them to WIN taking Sanchez all he has to do is prove out.
and the kid is sooo marketable.... the money he could bring into the city if he is a great QB? Not to mention all the hot girls coming to games and being Jets fans because of him... then we'll all be thanking sanchez for getting us ass  LOLzzzz he could put up Eli Manning numbers and be treated like a god here as long as the W's are more than the L's. I'm in your corner. Franchise QB's make more sense than anything because they are a face to the franchise.... Chad wasn't marketable. Good player, but not marketable.
