First of all, Mangold is ONE of the best player on the Jets team. Revis IS the best player. They are both the best at their respective position. Although Mangold's contribution goes unnoticed on the stat sheet, we can easily replace him by 80% of his production imo. Revis on the other hand, can't be replaced easily by someone that 80% as talented. There are players out there, but if u want to draft a rookie in the top 10, chances are, you won't find one that is nearly as good as him.

Secondly, Revis CAN NOT BE FRANCHISED!!! HOW LONG BEFORE PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD START REALIZING HE CAN'T BE TAGGED??? It is part of his rookie deal where Jets gave up the rights to tag him. /thread

I've seen that disputed before, do you have some source that confirms that? Like a link? Because I have been having trouble finding one. The only mentions I can find are that if the Jets pick up the final 2 seasons as a buyback they lose the right to franchise him.

The New York Jets and 1st round selection CB Darrelle Revis agreed on a 6 year contract worth a possible 36 million dollars on August 15, 2007. The deal includes 11 million in guarantees, a signing bonus of $4,700,500, and a roster bonus in 2007 of $333,500. Revis deal voids into a 4 year deal if he plays in 35% of the defenisve snaps in year 1 or 45% in any year thereafter. The Jets can buy back the final two seasons of the deal at 5 million in 2011 and either 9 million, 11 million, or 15 million in 2012 depending on Revis meeting certain incentives. The Jets gave up the rights to use the franchise tag on Revis in either of the voidable years. Revis met the playing time incentives in 2008 to void his deal.
Revis will earn base salaries of $285,000(2007), $370,000(2008), $460,000(2009), $550,000(2010), $650,000(2011), and $665,000(2012). It is being estimated that Revis will earn an option bonus of 2.4 million dollars in 2008. Revis will receive roster bonuses of 2.2 million in 2008 and 5.7 million in 2009.

Just finished listening to this. Nothing groundbreaking.

-Basically said that everyone is getting too worked up over the Revis deal. He isn't technically holding out yet.

-Bill Polian is saying the same thing Tanny is about being unwilling to sign a huge contract without knowing the rules of the game after this year.

-Brick will probably have to wait until next year for a deal.

    -Mentioned very little about Mangold.

-Will be difficult to re-sign Braylon after this year because he will be a UFA.

-If the current rules stand/get renewed after this year, they may end up tagging Holmes and keeping him for another year (assuming they still want him).

I stopped considering NYjetscap a valid source when I had half a dozen mistakes pointed out to me from that site.

What that Jetscap article seems like it's backing me up, but it's not citing any sources either.

I have read it on quite a few places, in different articles here and there. Reason behind the franchise tag waiver was to have Revis agree to a 6 year deal while Revis himself wanted an either a 4 or 5(not sure) yr deal. Revis met his performance clause to void the contract to 4 years, but Jets hold the right to still retain him for about $20 mil for two years. Basically the 2 years are assumed to be the 'franchise tag years', but are just not used as a tag.

Now Im not sure about tagging him in 2011 since his deal voids anyways. That way we can tag him for multiple years, but tagging him in 2011 makes no sense. Rather pay $5mil than the 8-10 mil he might get as a tagged player, although tagging him for several years will obviously save us much much more money.

Revis has outplayed his rookie deal, but I think Revis should honor his rookie contract as well. He got a great contract, we got great production out of him. Contract is not up yet and one should always honor a great contract regardless of how you have played. The problem in Revis not resigning Revis to a long term deal is that you run the huge risk of losing him altogether in three years without any compensation. So I'd rather like to see him in NY for more money than to see him play AGAINST us for $0 of our cost.

German Beer Girl looks a lot like Elisha Cuthbert when she had short hair, don't think it's her though.
