Thanks. That's what I was thinking was probably the case, but didn't have the facts/data to back it up.
Sorry, I liked Mangold a lot and he was a great Jet, but I think he has already played his entire career for the Jets. I think he's done.
He should absolutely be brought back for the right price. Let him compete for the job. If his skills have declined as many of you believe then he will be a backup for a year before being cut or retiring. He should retire a Jet.
Although I loved him, there is no way I want him back. First I hope he gets over all the injury's and bangs. Then if he goes anywhere let it be a team that will make the Super Bowl...but not the Pats. I wanted him from the first day and bought a jersey that i still wear proudly to any Jet game or function.
We don't have an in-house replacement that the FO think is ready to replace him. They think that Johnson will perform at the same sort of level that Nick would at a fraction of the price and may still improve. Can't say the same about any LB and Harris really. Does it need to be more than that?
Ron Wolf said it best, older players take playing time away from young players and slow down their development. Every snap an older Mangold takes away from Wesley, it's just preventing Wesley from learning and growing as a player. I love Mangold, but it's time to move on.
