We can sit here and trade insults all day, but I'll be the bigger man. Anyone can sit behind an anonymous forum name and take jabs at others. The fact is this: no matter how you spin it, Clemens is one of "Mangini's Guys" and I can almost guarantee he will not be your starter in 2009. I'm a Jets fan. I want to see them win and want what's best for the team. If Clemens has a good offseason and turns out to be something special, you know what? I'll be the first one on here congratulating the kid and admitting I was wrong. But I've been around this game a long enough time to have developed a pretty keen eye for talent, and as of right now I do not see KC as starting material.[/QUOTE] That is what it is all about. Coaches Bring In Their Guys They would rather lose with their players and I don't blame them
Hello! New here... I'm a Cleveland Browns fan... I saw that Favre is retiring... What do you guys think about trading for Derek Anderson? He has a rocket arm... I actually hope the Browns keep DA and dump brady quinn, but that may not happen. Would you give up a second rounder for DA? This last season was a bit of a fluke... He had no WRs really with Braylon Edwards dropping all those balls and Joe Jurevicius and Donte Stallworth injured most of the year
Anderson makes some sense with the Jets as a guy whose had success starting but wouldn't have to start. He'd be a good guy to compete with Clemens/Ratliff. But I wouldn't give up any thing better than a 4th for him, especially with that contract. I'd rather get Quinn, personally.
I know it's all just speculation at this point, but Lol at you almost guaranteeing that Clemens won't be our starter. Who's gonna beat him out? Ratliff? Boller? Whether you like him or not, Kellen Clemens is currently the frontrunner for our QB spot. That is what it is all about. Chad was here also. Maybe it had nothing to do with Clemens and alot to do with making a run now, PSL's, Woody man crush on Favre, poor evaluation by the staff, lack of patience by the staff, inability to fit players into a system that works best for them, crappy evaluation by the OC, HC, GM, Owner, ability to sell more merchandise, get cred with the Giants, ego gratification or maybe they thought Favre was all that was needed to make a serious run now and they gambled? Maybe it was all of the above? It could also be that they thought both Clemens and Chad suck?
1. Clemens is about done. He'll make a fantastic clipboard holder, nothing else. 2. Brett Ratliff - I need to see how he does against REAL defenses. Hitting 80 yard bombs on 3rd stringers and other dregs who are waiting to be cut isn't quite the kind of work I'd pin my decision on. 3. Erik Ainge: he does come from a good program (Vols) and with good credentials there as well. The caveat with Erik is that, a. he is very injury prone (possibly due to the lack of conditioning) b. has the height but lacks the bulk c. (and this is the killer) he REALLY needs to retool his footwork and mechanics (he cannot step into the throw) and finally d. he will need some bridging into NFL level of speed. Ainge does seem to have above-average arm, so that won't be a problem. All in all, Ainge is a quite a project from the way it stands now. My verdict would be, he won't be ready this year. If given enough time, he will be a good QB, I would think however. The fact that he was one of the most prolific passer in Vols history (with spectacular TD-INT ratio; if it means anything to you guys, he was comparable to Peyton Manning when it comes to the records at Vols.) means, he has the brain to get the job done. It's not even like he had a top-notch wideout to carry his load - he did by himself. To me, it's more a matter of time until he is ready to step into the huddle. And... of the three, I am not at all comfortable with Lemons, and I'd be more at ease with Ratliff. If Ainge comes on top, I wouldn't be surprised though. (I don't see it happening, however.)
give clemens a chance. behind a pro bowl line who knows maybe he is the answer. but getting garcia is not the way to go we need a younger player who is going to be the franchise player for the next 6-8 years. garcia is just like picking up favre, everyone is gonna love him then shit all over his face.
i agree he deserves a fair chance..clemens that is..and let him battle out ainge and ratliff maybe bring in jeff garcia or leftwhich
Heres my take, forget about Anderson not accurate. If you want to get QB for a year who could be a good backup and start if Clemens bombs and Ratliff is still raw then Garcia is your man. Really Kerry Collins would be a better fit but he will sign back with Tennesee. Now about the QBS in the draft I really only like 1 who and thats Stafford. Now is he going to be Ryan or Flacco, no because of where he is going to be going. Sanchez should of stood in school like his coach said because Leinart was twice as ready as he is and look where he is now. John David Booty was even more ready and Minnesota never even showed any intent to put him in a game. As for the other QBS in the draft the Kansas st. QB is to inconsistent and Harrell who I think is ready mentally has arm strength problems. Nate Davis the Ball st. QB interest me. He has a rocket of an arm and threw 70 yards in a competition and is fairly accurate. I would draft him in the 3rd round if available. The first round pick should be 1 of these receivers because as you seen in the last 2 super bowls you need a dangerous receiver. Coles and Cotchery both are possession type of receivers and Smith who was used wrong by Mangina has the size and strength to be your number 2 guy. Did anyone see the Oakland game! Look these receivers are going to go quick so don't think you be getting 1 of the top 5 in the second round. The 2nd pick has to be a speed rusher at DE and the Tennesee DE may be available. If he is draft him but his stock went from a 4th rounder to almost a first rounder.
Teams that make it to the Big Games Have Big Time QBs When we decide to get some balls and draft one then maybe we can talk about having a shot QBs drafted late have not been good at all. Yeah you can talk about Brady, but Brady played for Michigan and for that alone he should have been drafted higher than what he was, but the team that have been competing lately have invested there 1st rd pick for QBs and it has paid off. Roethlisberger Rivers, Ryan Flacco Manning McNabb Cutler
I would rather have a guy that the guys on the team can believe in. These guys work too hard to invest time into a questionable season. I think they deserve to have all the help they can get. Some guys came here because they thought we had the pieces in place to make a run. That is what it is all about, Trying to make a run. Clemens can't make the starting line-up. How is he going to lead this team in one of the toughest divisions in football to the playoffs?
Well..the Titans rode their defense and run game to the playoffs this past season. I don't credit Collins at all with any of their success.......I don't think he's starting QB material anywhere in the NFL....he's a reliable game-managing backup at best, and he's proven that this season. And Clemens might not be the answer either....I'm just saying Kerry is a shittier option....by far.
Clemens does not have haters You have to do something to have haters If he ends up as the starter and he sucks then he will have proven those who question him right. If he does well then we all do well I think in the end we all want the Jets to win The problem is none of us really know how to make it happen
It amazes me how people think he had a fair shake when he started. He went 3-4 with two linemen who are not even in football anymore and should have been 4-3 if not for dropped passes by Cotchery and Mc-dropins! He had Wallace Wright and Brad Smith as his starters in games that he started. Peyton Manning would have done the same thing if put in that situation. Clemens would have gone in the first round if not for injuries in his senior year. This Kid needs a real shot at being a Nfl Qb.
THANK YOU!! I am glad someone here agrees with me 100%. I think Clemens is THE most under-rated back-up in the NFL.
