It's not clear whether these statements are the writers opinion or actual statements from the Jets. No where do they mention a source, or even an anonymous source, they just say the Jets don't feel he's the answer. I'll wait until I hear it straight from the horses mouth before I believe anything.
You're right.. you can't expect much when I'm replying to some of the most misinformed, or unimformed posts in message board history. Kinda goes with the territory.
You might be right about the Bears but I thought they had always named a starter by the time camp opened. The others I don't remember at all but again you have to take the quality of the coach into it.
Because your starting QB would have been splitting snaps in training camp, while every other QB in the league took all the starting snaps. It isn't 3-4 weeks so much as 2, maybe, but it is a valid point. Ugh, I shuddered when I said that.
Ha! You beat me to it WSW. I was just listening to a Conference Call taking place with Woody Johnson, Mike T and reporters on the team's official website, and Mike T just said they're pretty high on Clemens and feel like he can come in and very well run this team in 09. They went ahead and got 2 QB coaches to try to give Clemens every opportunity to be successful. So I don't know where Don got this piece of information that the Jets have given up on Clemens.
Kurt Warner and Matt Leinart had an open competition for the QB position last season in TC...to which Warner won. And they made it to the Super Bowl. So how does an "open competition" set your QB back 3-4 weeks? stop talking out of your bum.
These statements are not new. I have heard thee leaks for two years. Ever since Clemens had his chance in '07.
I realize that, but they will still get plenty of reps. I really don't think it sets them back 3-4 weeks.
thanks for justifying your "Least Knowledgeable Poster" award, Don. And i was using the Kurt Warner/Leinart competition as an example of an "open competition" not setting a starting QB back 3-4 weeks.....i wasn't comparing the skillsets between Clemens/Ratty and Warner/Leinart.
What's the difference if they're new or not? They still aren't directly linked to anyone in the Jets organization and could easily just be the writers opinion. The offseason actions by the FO will give us a better idea of what there opinion is than some statement with no source.
How is Don going to post here if he can't use statements without sources? You might as well ask a bird to fly without wings.
I'm just letting you know what was said in the conference call. I'm sure Mike T and Woody gave the cookie-cutter response in regards to Clemens and they weren't going to announce to the media that they've lost all hope on him and they were planning on cutting him in the coming days. But to say that it's been REPORTED that THE Jets have given up on Clemens is just completely wrong. Like I've said, it looks like they're really going to surround this kid with all the coaching he needs to be successful because they want it to work out. Chances are, they don't like the way the Draft is folding out because there's a high chance there won't be a QB available at #17, so rather than coughing up picks left and right, they'd like to make sure Clemens gets a fair chance to run this offense.
