WTF is wrong with letting our two Qb's battle it out with a vet in TC?? Why did we draft them in the first place if we're never gonna play them? Better yet, why did we pass on so many blue chip Qb's over the last few drafts? Was it because the Jet FO wouldn't know a good QB if they saw one???? Let the kids show what they have or don't have. This team has time to grow. We're not SB ready in '09 anyway.
I'd feel alright with that if there were any decent vets out there to get... unfortunately there aren't.
This obvious Fact is lost on the 75% who scream for Garcia or some other done Old Qb. If Clemens did not get hurt in College he would have been a first round pick and he got his shot in the worst possible case scenario. Let him finally get a fair shot this summer in camp.
Yeah because the Jets organization knew what they were doing when they drafted Mike Nugent and traded for Doug Jolley, they knew what they were doing when they got rid of Kendall and replaced him with no one, they knew what they were doing when they allowed the Dolphins to get Pennington and have him tear us a new one in our home stadium! Its clear you hate Clemens for some reason Don. Perhaps when he was thrown in there midseason, had no o-line and had Justin McCareins to throw to, you thought that this was adequate time to judge him. I don't really care about the preseason competition bull with Pennington either, Pennington always looks good in training camp because he doesnt get hit and can show how smart he is. I wouldn't mind getting a good QB in the draft, but God if I see a guy like Jeff Garcia come in here its going to be a miserable season.
This has been touched on before but it is a TERRIBLE idea to let them battle it out in camp and I doubt you will see that happen. Doing that only insures that your starter and maybe even his backup gets 1/3 of the playing time with the starting team. QB competions are only for fools and coaches like Mangini. I would be shocked if Ryan doesn't announce his QB before camp opens.
Huh? What does that have to do with anything? The Jets don't like him and what else matters? Did you waste money on his jersey or something? He isn't going to be the QB and they have all but said it. They certainly leaked their feelings about him enough over the last two years.
The best thing for this year is a veteran quarterback to help out the young quarterbacks. Next years Qb's in the draft look like we could have the real deal there.
So, unless you've drafted a Manning or a Rivers or a Cutler you're crazy for letting a young Qb show what he can do? I just want to make sure I'm understanding what it is you're posting here..
No, it's not a joke at all. The joke is when a coach doesn't have the balls to name a starter. Just how many QB competitions have you ever actually seen in your life? At least those not run by Mangini. Anywhere and on any team?
What I am posting is that it is a terrible idea to have an open competition. All it does is set your starter back 3-4 weeks from every other starter in the league. Now, what part of that are you having a hard time understanding?
Lets see theres the bears with grossman and orton the 49ers with Alex smith and whoever there other guys were the jaguars before they released leftwich theres a couple each year it seems
